Mr Binman U14 Hurling Division 3 Championship Final:
Blackrock prove best to defeat Garryspillane and take County title,
It’s often said ‘Goals Win Matches’ and this was case in Kilbreedy on Saturday morning last when in 10 goal saw Blackrock win Mr Binman Under 14 Hurling Division 3 Championship FINAL defeating Garryspillane in a very well contested decider on a score-line Blackrock 7.06 Garryspillane 3.06, it was indeed a special win for the ‘ Young Rockies’ as they maintained their unbeaten run in the Championship winning all their round robin games, over Kildimo/Pallaskenry, Garryspillane, South Liberties and Hospital/Herbertstown while receiving walk overs from Cappamore and Pallasgreen/Kilteely /Dromkeen to finish top in Division 3.and defeated St Kieran’s in County Semi Final and Garryspillane in the final
The final on Saturday was played in a very sporting manner, in front of a fine crowd saw Garryspillane win possession from the throw in and launch an attack which resulted in a goal. Blackrock replied with a pointed free from Luke Gleeson that was followed by a Billy O’Brien goal, giving his side a one point lead which was short-lived as the ‘Bouncers’ scored their second goal before they had a chance of increasing their lead from a free that went wide of the upright. Luke Gleeson was on target with two pointed frees to bring the sides level Blackrock 1.03 Garryspillane 2.00. Three unanswered points for Garryspillane, two frees and one from play gave them a three point lead, as the interval break was approaching, Blackrock went on the attack from which full-forward Alex Fitzgerald scored his side’s second goal to leave the side’s level at the interval Blackrock 2.03 Garryspillane 2.03.
The second half saw Blackrock win possession from the throw and a long puck towards the goals from Luke Gleeson dropped into Garrysillane net to give Blackrock the lead once again that they would not relinquish, Luke Gleeson was on target once again from a placed ball, Garryspillane got on top for period in which they awarded four frees. The first came off the upright, while the second was pointed and the third went wide before the fourth effort was pointed to leave two points between the sides Blackrock 3.04 Garryspillane 2.05, another Luke Gleeson pointed free extended the lead to three points. Midway into the second half Garryspillane scored their third goal to bring the level once again 3.05 each. Blackrock won a long distant free which full-back Conor Philpot hit goalwards and ended up in the Garryspillane net which was followed by a point from Billy O’Brien to give Blackrock a four point lead. Garryspilland replied with a point from a 65, this was to be their last score as Blackrock went on a goal scoring spree, Billy O’Brien added his second and David Cronin side stepped his marker to score his side’s sixth goal, Billy O’Brien completed his goal scoring hat trick when he crashed the sliothar to the net to give Blackrock a well merited victory and the County title on a score-line Blackrock 7.06 Garryspillane 3.06.

Lyons of Limerick County Premier Hurling Championship Round 7:
Blackrock overcome South Liberties and gain last Semi-Final place

From being bottom of the table after five rounds of Lyons of Limerick County Premier Hurling Championship, when the final whistle sounded in Mick Neville Park on Saturday afternoon last, Blackrock found themselves in a Semi Final place, following very impressive outings in the closing two rounds of the championship, scoring wins over Glenroe in Round Six, 5.15 to 1.08 and South Liberties in Round Seven, 2.18 to 0.11.
Blackrock won their place in the Semi-Finals of Lyons of Limerick County Premier Intermediate hurling championship after scoring an impressive win over South Liberties 2.18 to 0.11 in their round 7 clash at Mick Neville Park on Saturday last.
The ‘Rockies’ got off to a very good start with well taken points from Colm O’Keeffe (2) Paudie Leahy and Sean O’Neill, Liberties opened their scoring after 10 minutes with a point from play, both sides exchanged a brace of points, before Sean O’Neill won possession and broke through the defence to crash a low shot to the net, to give his side a six point lead after 15 minutes of play South Liberties replied with a pointed free before Paudie Leahy scored a Blackrock point, South Liberties replied with a pointed free before Ciaran Considine,Colm O’Keefe, Jimmy Quilty, Paudie Leahy added four points from play for Blackrock to leave the score 1.09 to 0.03 with less than 3 minutes remaining in the opening half, South Liberties finished with three points from play while Colm O’Keeffe pointed a Blackrock free to leave the score board reading Blackrock 1.10 South Liberties 0.06 at the interval.
On the resumption of play, Blackrock continued where they left off for the interval break, full-forward Colm O’Keeffe scored three unanswered points from play to give Blackrock a 10 point lead., South Liberties had a free go wide before launching a second attack which resulted in a free out to the ‘Rockies’ points from Paudie Leahy and Sean O’Neill increased the lead to 12 points, midway in the second half. Two minutes later, South Liberties had a pointed free to get on the score-board for the second half. Marty Farrell increased the lead back to 12 points when he pointed from outfield for Blackrock, Liberties went on the attack and Blackrock goalkeeper David Moloney made a great save from a shot which was deflected for a 65 from which was converted they added another point from a free to reduce the arrears to 10 points. Substitute Ruairi O’Shaughnessy announced his introduction to the game some minutes earlier, when he registered a point from play quickly followed by a goal, sending the sliothar to the net putting Blackrock into a 2.17 to 0.09 lead with time ticking away, ‘Liberties’ scored a point from outfield before adding a late pointed free, Marty Farrell scored the final point of the game giving Blackrock a very well deserved 2.18 to 0.11 win in a game where the winners were dominant in all throughout BE
