Junior Hurlers Score a Good Win over Bruree:
On Tuesday evening last August 26th. Blackrock travelled to Bruree to play the home side South Junior ‘B’ Hurling Championship Round 4 game.and scored a good win over the home side on a score line of 1.21 to 0.12. The opening half was well contested with the visitors taking a 1.11 to 0.08 lead into the interval, the points coming from James O’Doherty (7, 6f) Niall Ryan (2), Conor Gilligan, Sean Murphy while Adrian Beqiri was the goal scorer mid way in the half. On the resumption of play aided by the breeze Blackrock remained on top, adding 0.10 to their total coming from Sean Murphy (3) Brian O’Leary (2) Conor Gilligan James O’Doherty, Darragh Considine, Blake O’Doherty, Evan Lowe and Niall Ryan while Bruree added (0.04. Blackrock team & scorers James McGrath, Seamus Ryan, Brian Hennessy, James Philpot, SimonHennessy, Blake O’Doherty (0.01), James O’Doherty (0.08 6f) Danny Moloney, Shaun Murphy (0.04), Conor Gilligan (0.02), Niall Ryan (0.02), Adrian Beqiri (1.00), Paudie Lawlor, Darragh Considine (0.01). Subs used Brian O’Leary (0.02), T.J..Buckley, Evan Lowe, (0.01) Aron Downes and Gavin Ryan.
Premier Intermediate Hurlers lose out:
On Saturday afternoon last August 30th. in Lyons of Limerick County Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship Round 5, Blackrock and Granagh/Ballingarry met in Ballyagran. Both sides were coming into the following defeats in Round 4 the previous weekend and were hopeful of victory. Aided by a strong wind blowing into village end goals, it was Granagh/Ballingarry who had best of the first half exchanges, helped with a penalty goal to lead at the interval bt eleven points, 1,15 to 0.07. Blackrock opened the scoring Jimmy Quilty pointed two early frees, Granagh/Ballingarry had equalised after the Blackrock opening score and they added five unanswered points, two from frees to lead 0.06 to 0.02. Midway in the opening half, both sides exchanged four points each, Conor Gilligan, Sean 0’ Neill, Colm O’Keeffe (2) the Blackrock scorers. Granagh/Ballingarry replied with four points, one free, before Blackrock replied with a Colm O’Keeffe pointed free to reduce the deficit to seven points, 0.14 to 0.07. Granagh/Ballingarry were awarded a penalty, as the opening half into added time, a goal resulted from the penalty followed by a late point which saw the score-board reading Granagh/Ballingarry 1.15 Blackrock 0.07.
On the resumption of play, Granagh/Ballingarry increased their lead with a pointed free, Blackrock were getting more into the game, but missed a number of scoring chances before they scored five points in succession from Jimmy Quilty 2f. Paudie. Leahy, R 0’Shaughnessy and Liam Walsh to reduce the deficit to seven points, (1.16 to 0.12). Both sides exchanged tree points each Paudie.Leahy 2, 1f. Colm O’Keeffe f. With the clock ticking away Col O’Keeffe added two points one from a before Granagh/Ballingarry hit back with a pointed free to take a six point advantage, Blackrock found the net when Colm O’Keeffe got possession and scored a goal, followed by a point from Paudie Leahy, to narrow the gap to just two points. From the resulting puck out Granagh-Ballingarry went on the attack that ended with Blackrock ‘keepr David Moloney saving a point-blank shot l only for the Western side to turn over the clearance and send the sliothar over the bar for a three point lead, Blackrock won a free from outfield which was deflected for a 65 which ended wide
as the final whistle blew giving Granagh/Ballingarry victory by 1.21 to 1.18. U14 Hurlers prepare for County Championship Semi Final:
The U14 Hurlers have qualified for the Mr. Binman County U14 Hurling Championship Semi Final where they will meet St. Kierans date/time/venue to be confirmed, in preparation for the game, Blackrock played a very worthwhile challenge game at The Michael Fox Memorial Park on Sunday last when they played Kilmallock and scored a well merited win by 3.08 to 0.09 in a ver wll contested game. The team was, J.J. Beechinor, Conor Philpot, Alan Griffin, Aidan Danaher, Noah Ryan, Johnny Walsh, David Cronin, Charlie O’Donnell, Triston O’Carroll, Alex Fitzgerald, Logan Ryan, Kevin Coughlan, Billy O’Brien, Fionn Hanley, Jack O’Donnell.
The U16 and Minor Hurlers await knockout fixtures update, The U16 hurlers have finished top of Mr. Binman County U16 Hurling Championship division 3A while the Minor side have also qualified for the knockout stages of the division 1 County Minor Hurling Championship.
