Club Hurling News:
It was another busy week of County hurling championship games with five games on the programme of fixtures at Under 14, Under 16, Minor, Junior and Premier Intermediate level.
Minor side score a big win:
It was the minor hurlers who got proceedings underway in Kilfinane on Wednesday evening last September 4th when they hosted Southside Gaels (Claughaun/St. Patricks/Ballinacurra Gaels) County Minor ‘B’ Hurling Championship Group 3 Round 5. It was the host side that opened the scoring with a point, Southside Gaels hit back with a goal to take the lead that did not last long as Blackrock got on top and dominate in all sectors and led at the interval by 1.16 to 1.01. The visitors got more into the game for periods of the second half but were unable to penetrate a very tight marking defence and the home side added 1.10 to 0.05 to score well deserved win, their third in row on a score line of 2,16 to 1.06 to finish third in table.
Under 14 Hurlers reach County Final:
On Saturday last September 7th the club had a double fixture with the under 14 hurlers and Premier Intermediate hurlers in action.
The under 14 hurlers had a very early start to the day with a 10.30am throw in Mick Neville Park, they played Dromcollogher/Broadford in Mr. Binman County under 14 hurling Division 3 Championship Semi Final where they scored a 6.12 to 2.05 victory to reach the final where they will meet Belville Gaels amalgamation of Feohanagh/Castlemahon and Feenagh/Kilmeedy in the Final. It was Blackrock that were on top for most of the game and led at the interval by 7 points, 2.05 to 0.04. In the second half Blackrock outscored Dromcollogher/Broadford 4.07 to 2.01 to run out comfortable winners, and extend their unbeaten run in the championship campaign to 8 wins from 8 fixtures.
Blackrock score victory in local derby:
Knocklong was the venue when the Premier Intermediate Hurlers played neighbours Glenroe in Lyons of Limerick Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship round 5 game, which had a 3pm throw in. Played in front of a large crowd in excellent weather condition it was Blackrock that enjoyed dominance in the opening half to take an eight point lead at the break 0.12 to 0.04 while both sides were guilty of poor shooting, Glenroe hitting twelve wide’s while Blackrock hit eight.
The second half started as the first half with Glenroe opening the scoring with a point, but any aspirations of a revival were quickly dampened as Blackrock replied with three unanswered points, both side were reduced to 14 players, the sides exchanged points before the Rockies ran out comfortable winners by a twelve point margin 0.23 to 0.11.

Juniors loose out:
On Sunday September 8th in the Woodlands House Hotel County Junior A hurling Championship round 4 game, Feenagh was the venue for the meeting of Blackrock and Patrickswell at 1pm.
Under 16 side reach County Semi Final:
On Monday evening September 9th in the Mr. Binman County under 16 hurling division 3 championship quarter final Blackrock played Killacolla Gaels in Kilfinane and it was the home side that emerged victorious on 3.16 to 3.13 score line to reach the County semi final. In a very well contested and close game that saw six goals scored in the opening half (three each), aided by the fresh evening breeze it was Killacolla Gaels that led at the interval by 3.09 to 3.06 after some fine passages of play from both sides. The second half saw ‘the Rockies, out score Killacolla Gaels 0.10 to 0.04 to emerge winners 3.16 to 3.13.
