BALLYSTEEN GAA CLUB NOTES

Senior Football
We suffered our first defeat in the championship on Saturday as we lost 1-15 to 1-10 against Galtee Gaels in Claughaun. Our place in the quarter-final was assured prior to throw in with Galtee advancing to the knockout stages as group winners as we finish in second ahead of St Kierans.
Sean Whelan got us off to the perfect start with a goal after two minutes at the Childers Rd venue. But Galtee hit back with a couple to bring themselves back into the game. A couple from David O’Shaughnessy had us one point to the good, 1-3 to 0-7 at the first waterbreak. But in a low scoring third quarter we failed to find the target and a brace from Galtee Gaels saw them take a 0-7 to 1-3 lead into the half.
We traded scores to start the half but four on the bounce had Galtee 0-11 to 1-4 clear before they hit the net on 40 minutes to move seven clear. But we replied with six on the bounce to bring the game back to one point approaching the final ten minutes. But from here Galtee Gaels regained their composure to take the win.
We now move on to face Adare in the quarter-finals on the weekend of September 25/26
