BALLYSTEEN GAA CLUB NOTES
Senior Football
There was a disappointing night at the The Bog Garden on Tuesday as we lost out 1-5 to 1-4 against Rathkeale in the 3rd round of the West Senior Football League.
Having trailed by 1-4 to 0-0 early on, we had the gap back to 1-4 to 0-2 at half time with Mark Ranahan and Shane Hallinan pointing.
Two points in a row after the break had us within a goal with David O’Shaughnessy duly obliging to level proceedings with a fantastic finish
The goal came minutes after Hallinan was sent off for a second yellow card as we lost Eddie Murphy to a black card late on. Rathkeale with their two extra men kicked the last score of the game in injury time to claim the win.
On a positive note, there was a Senior debut for Paudie McMahon who made a big difference on his introduction at half time.
Next up is a clash with Drom Broadford in Ballysteen on Friday week (July 9) at 7.30pm. 100 spectators are permitted with social distancing protocols to be adhered to.

Junior Football
Our Junior footballers suffered a 3-13 to 1-9 defeat to Athea in the third round of the West Junior League in Ballysteen on Wednesday. We started the brighter and had the opening three scores of the game in brilliant conditions at the Sportsfield. Injuries to Paudi Vaughan and Paul Doyle dampened our progress and Athea began to grow into the game scoring the first goal of the evening before the waterbreak. At the half, the visitors were six points ahead with a 1-7 to 0-4 lead. Taking full advantage of the half-time break, Athea hit their grove straight from the throw in a quickfire goals put the tie beyond doubt. However, a youthful Ballysteen battled to their credit and were rewarded when Brendan Hayes bundled home late on.
Team: Cathal Anglim, Eoin Condon, Paul Doyle, Jonathan Hartigan , Niall Barry, Eddie Murphy, David Holland, Paudi Vaughan, Paudie McMahon, Sam Duggan, Jack Neville, Kevin Barry, Pakie Neville, Maurice Somers, Jamie Moran. Subs: Mick Boyce, Darragh Leonard, Brendan Hayes, Glen O’Donell
