BALLYSTEEN GAA CLUB NOTES
Senior Footballers
Our Senior Footballers were in action this past Saturday when we faced St.Senan’s in a do or die encounter in Newcastle West. The prospect of our season ending at the hands of our near neighbours provided the motivation for our lads. The team that lined out to start saw recalls for Conor Ranahan in goals, Kevin McMahon in defence and Darragh Ranahan in attack. The first half was an even affair with both Danny Neville and Ian Ryan carrying the scoring threat for both sides. We retired to the half time break ahead by a point, 0-08 to 0-07.
The second half saw us dominate from the throw in and with Cilian Ferris nullifying the threat of Ryan, we pressed home our advantage. Two goals from Danny Neville were the silver lining on the display. The second goal coming from a perfect assist from Shane Hallinan. The bench was emptied with time running out with Luke Gammell, Bill Casey, Maurice Somers and Cian O’Connell all seeing action. The full time score saw us run out 2-19 to 0-12 winners and qualify for the knock out stages of the competition for the second successive year. Well done to all players and management involved. Attention will now turn to our Quarter Final encounter against Newcastle West on Saturday, September 7th in Mick Neville Park. Throw In Time is 3pm.
