BALLYSTEEN GAA CLUB NOTES
Senior Footballers
Our Senior footballers kicked off their West League campaign with a hard fought 2-9 to 1-10 win away to Drom Broadford on Saturday afternoon. A slow start allowed Drom into an early 0-4 to 0-1 lead with Willie O’Meara getting our opening score. Darragh Ranahan got his first of the day before Tomas Sheahan palmed to the net for 0-4 to 1-2 lead. Danny Neville and Darragh had further scores before the half to leave it 0-4 to 1-4 in our favour at the turn of ends. Pakie Moran and Willie had scores early in the second half but Drom then found a well taken goal to make it a one point game. Darragh replied with a brilliant goal, starting the move before finishing to the net. Danny had two more and Colm O’Flaherty pushed us six clear with a score on his adult debut. Drom hit four in row down the finish but the work was done at that stage. Next up we take on Adare at home on Wednesday April 6 at 6.45pm.

Junior Footballers
We continued a good weekend of football with a second win over Drom in as many days with a 1-13 to 1-5 victory at the field in the Junior A League on Sunday morning. Lining out with a very strong side, Dec Guerin got us off the mark with Eddie Murphy and Colm O’Flaherty joining him in that regard for a 0-3 to 0-0 lead. Drom hit back with a pair but we had the last four scores of the half for a 0-7 to 0-2 lead, Guering and Darragh Cong Leonard with a brace each. We continued in this vein at the start of the second half with Maurice Somers (x2) and Shane Gallagher finding the target. Drom hit their third point shortly after but Niall Barry and Mick Boyce then added their names to the scoresheet. Colm, put the game to bed with an excellently taken goal that had us 1-12 to 0-4 clear. Mick Boyce had our final score as Drom got a late consolation.
