BALLYLANDERS GAA CLUB NOTES
SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP
Our senior footballers were in action again last Saturday in an near empty Kilmalock were they faced Oola in round three of the championship. Niall Fitzgerald & his management team were dealt a blow during the week with three of the team that started in the win over Galtee Gaels the previous week were ruled out due to sickness & injury, fortunately they were able to call on the experience of Shane Fox & Tom O’Dywer while Pa Shanahan was making his senior debut. It was a cool but dry evening with a stiff breeze blowing against us in the first half. Oola started the brightest & had 1-2 on the board by the tenth minute before Danny Frewen opened our account with a pointed free & that’s how it was at the first water break. Steve Fox worked his way up the field to take a well worked score to narrow the gap & another free from Danny had us back in the game but Oola finished the half like they started & hit 1-1 inside a minute to make the task all the more difficult. Danny kicked another free but there was still time for Oola to hit the target just before the half time whistle to leave the score at the break 2-4 to 0-4 in favour of the east club.
Points from Eoin O’Mahony & Ciaran Kelly early in the second half closed the gap to four but once again Oola were able to hault the comeback with another two scores, Jimmy Barry hit the final score of the third quarter & Oola were to out score us by two points to one in the final ten minutes to run out deserving winners on a scoreline of Oola 2-08 to Ballylanders 0-08. That concludes the group stages of the championship & next up we face Monaleen in the quarter finals.
