BALLYLANDERS

Our Senior footballers suffered more disappointment in Feenagh last Friday evening as a gallant effort ended in a one point defeat to Adare. This was a chalk & cheese performance to the previous week where everyone of the lads left it all out on the field knowing that a first win of championship was needed. Mark O’Connell replaced the injured Jimmy Barry Murphy in midfield and from the start set the catalyst by wining the throw in & set up our opening attack. Danny Frewen kicked the opening score which was followed by an Eoin O’Mahony effort from play but the next score proved to be the crucial score as Adare found the top corner of our net to leave Declan O’Connor no chance in goal. Points from Mark O’Connell and another free from Danny Frewen had us back in front and the rest of the half was nip and tuck with points from Ciaran Kelly and Danny’s third of the half had us level at the break 0-6 to 1-3. The second half took the same path where there was never more than two points between the sides, Danny Frewen kicked two more frees & Steve Fox had the sides level with only a few minutes remaining, unfortunately Adare clinched the game with an extra time free leaving us pointless in the group with only one match remaining but unfortunately other results over the weekend mean we will now be contesting the relegation final. Team and scorers: Declan O’Connor, Pa Holian, Donal Kelly, Steve Walsh, TomO’Dywer, Shaun Moloney, Pa Shanahan, Eoin O’Mahony (0-1), Mark O’Connell (0-1), Liam Dehenny Danny Frewen (0-5), Steve Fox (0-1), Ciaran Kelly (0-1), Eoin Walsh, Shane O’Donoghue. Subs used, Jason Leigh and Cillian Meade.
Our Junior B team face Croom on Tuesday evening August 30th in Ballylanders with a 7pm throw in.
