SYMPATHIES – It is with great sadness that all involved in Ballybrown GAA Club have learnt of the death of Francis (Juicy) O’ Reilly of the Ferrybridge Clarina.
Francis was one of six brothers who were sons of the late Paddy (Sonny) and Margaret O’ Reilly. All six played Hurling for Ballybrown and their father was involved as an officer in the club for several years.
Francis was the goalkeeper for Ballybrown who won the clubs first Senior title in Sept 1989 versus Doon. Beat Sixmilebridge in a Munster Final in November 1989 and finally made it to the All Ireland club final in March 1990 where they lost by the only goal of the game to Ballyhale Shamrocks in Croke Park. He also played in the national Hurling league with Limerick and was sub goalie under Tommy Quaid during the early 1990s. Francis was goalkeeper for the Limerick U21s that beat Clare in the Munster U21 Final Replay in 1986.
When Ballybrown N.S. opened in September 1976. Francis and his brother Tom were amongst the children who arrived from Lurriga N. S. to join the boys and girls from both schools in Tervoe.
In the late 1990s and 2000s, his son Thomas was involved with underage teams in Ballybrown and both Francis and Deirdre would follow the Ballybrown teams both near and far.
There are many great memories of Francis for his family, friends and club and county teammates to remember.
Once more we in Ballybrown GAA Club would like to sympathise with his wife Deirdre, his son Thomas and daughter Donna, his daughter in law Caroline, his son in law Dillon, his four grandchildren and his brothers Ger and Billy and all the extended O’Reilly and Hogan families. (Credit: Mick Roberts)
