BALLYBRICKEN/BOHERMORE GAA CLUB NOTES
Junior A: Our junior a hurlers recorded a fantastic victory in the East league final beating neighbours Caherline on a score line of 1-18 to 1-12. Played in Cappamore field, Bally had a breeze at their backs in the first half and led 0-3 to 0-1 thanks to frees from Conor McCarthy and a point from distance from Daniel McGuire. Our discipline was good around the middle third and we worked hard to limit our opponents clean possession Conor McCarthy and Aidan Power kept the score board ticking while Daniel Owens struck just over to leave us leading at the break 0-12 to 0-5. Our opponents came with an expected surge after the break but we restricted them to long distance shooting for the opening quarter as both sides battled hard. Caherline got the goal they desired to close within two but Bally responded well with a point from Colm Teefy followed soon after by 1-1 from the dangerous Daniel Owens our strong finish seen us run out deserved winners by 6 points with an excellent effort defensively restricting our opponents to thirteen scores. The East league trophy was presented to joint captain Mark O Dea (Alan Riordan) well done to all concerned especially all the players during the league and management team of Colin Brouder, Cathal O Neill, Jimmy Martin statman Alan Stack and physio Kathleen Wilkinson. Junior B: Ballybricken/Bohermore played Pallasgreen in round five off the junior b league losing out on a score of 0-10 to 2-10. Played in Caherelly last Tuesday night we matched our opponents score for score in the opening quarter with points from Michael Martin by 2 and Enda Frawley all from play. We gained an advantage as the half wore on and the accuracy of free taker Aidan Power was on show as he slotted five from five as the we got to the break leading by 8 points to 4. The break in play did not suit us and before we knew it our opponents had 2-1 scored early in the second half which wiped out our advantage we struggled to score in the second period as we picked up a few knocks and had to re jig the line up our two points coming from placed balls from Joseph Teefy and Enda O Callaghan.
