BALLYBRICKEN/BOHERMORE GAA CLUB NOTES

Junior A: Ballys junior A hurlers bowed out of championship against Kilmallock last Saturday on a score line of 2-3 to 0-11 in the county championship quarter final stage. Played in Bruff in very wet conditions we got off to a flying start with Niall Mitchell finishing to the net from an acute angle with one of our first attacks. We were unfortunate not to double our goals tally with Bally forcing an expert save from Kilmallocks keeper soon after, scores were hard to come by and despite our hard work it was the 20th minute before we scored again with a Conor McCarthy free levelling proceedings 1-1 to 0-4. With the rain constant and underfoot conditions softening it was turning into a very tight encounter, we added two more Conor McCarthy frees to leave us leading by one as both teams headed for the dressing rooms at the break. Our opponents led by one ten mins in to the half but we won a penalty which was expertly finished by Conor McCarthy for our loan score of the half leaving us leading by two with roughly 20 minuets to play. In a day more suitable to defending we could not add to the score line for the remainder of the contest and the opposition were level with 10 to play they took the lead and ran out winners by two points leaving us out at the quarter final stage for the second successive year. This marks the end of our championship and all though we may have to play an intermediate cup semi-final well done to all involved with the team, management Colin Brouder, Jimmy Martin and Cathal O Neill first aid Kathleen Wilkinson and Helen McCarthy Statman Alan Stack all the players and all those who helped out during the year. U12s: On Friday night in UL we finished out a busy year for our u12 with the hurling finals night where we were drawn with Adare. Our boys got off to a great start and had built up a big lead at half time. Adare applied a lot of pressure in the 2nd half but we defended very well and were able to pick off a couple of scores to give us a good win. This has been a great year for our u12s, they have many exciting matches and they have put in a huge effort for training and matches. Thanks to John Hanly and Joe Teefy for looking after the team and all the parents and other supporters who always give the team great support. Panel: John Pratt, Joseph Teefy, Alex Gavin, Conor O Brien, Michael Hanly, Matthew Cox, Rory Hanly, Darragh Clifford, Eoin Clifford, Adam O Neill, Cillian Murphy, Diarmuid Hurley, Jack Hartigan, Alex Quinlivan, Rian Martin, Daniel Barry, Ronan Connelly, Oran Barry

U13s: After the league stages of the 13 Hurling we ended up in a playoff with Hospital Herberstown with the winners progressing to play Glenroe in the next round. All 3 teams had won 3 games and lost 1 game over the course of the league. Our loss had come at the hands of Hospital Herberstown on a 3-7 to 1-4 score line at the start of September so our players knew that a big performance was needed if we were to progress. After a very tight 1st half the team were level BB 2-3 V HH 1-6. The 2nd half continue in the same vain with very little scoring for the first 10 minutes. Over the last 10 minutes we outscored HH by 2-2 to 1-1. This gave us the victory on a score line of 4-5 to 2-7. This was a great team performance with super work rate throughout and no shortage of skilful hurling. The boys are now fixed to play Wednesday night in the next round. Thanks to all for the great support the team got on the night.
