ATHEA GAA CLUB NOTES
Launch of ‘Healthy Athea & Track Opening Day
Looking forward to seeing you all on Sunday to walk our newly tarmacadamed track and learn all about the newest club set up in Athea- ‘Healthy Athea – Health and Wellbeing Club’. Some healthy treats will be available and those in attendance will also be invited to try out some simple exercises, to help us keep fit throughout the winter months. Some invited well known guests will also be in attendance including Aaron Gillane who will be selling his newest range of sports gear, something for everyone!
Nursery Group
The Athea nursery group was set up in May as a simple introduction to the fundamental movement of running, jumping and improving coordination in a fun and safe environment. Over the 20 weeks we had 30 different players participate each Friday evening. The kids developed their skills , while making new friends and helping the transition into primary school /pre school in September. Last Friday night we concluded with each player getting a cert and treats in recognition of their participation in the programme. It would not be possible to run such a programme without the funding for the club , the guidance from the coaches and the support of the parents.
U7 Footballers
The U7 footballers had a great blitz in Mountcollins last Saturday week where we had 17 boys and girls taking part. They were all given treats afterwards thanks to Mountcollins GAA.
U7 Hurlers
The U7 hurlers were in action in Athea last Saturday morning against Dromcollogher/Broadford where we had 15 boys and girls wielding the camán. They continue to improve with every practice secession and match.
U15 Boys
Athea 2-5 St Kierans 2-4
Both teams served up an entertaining game in Athea last Monday before a good crowd. Play swung from end to end but both sets of forwards found scores hard to come by. This was great preparation for our upcoming county semifinal.
Team: Tomas Ahern, Sean Twomey, Tadhg Ahern, Ciaran Hunt, Jamie Collins, James Hunt, Jack Sexton, Calum Buckley, Evan Curry, Timmy O Keeffe, Rory Cleary, Alex Quinn, Jim Ahern, Louis O Sullivan and Tomas Ahern
