County U20 A Football Championship- Semi-final Result:
Shannon Gaels Athea 0-12 Drom Broadford 1-13
We made the trip to UL last Saturday where we met Drom Broadford in the U20A Championship Semi-final on the North Campus pitch. Conditions were cold but dry with no wind for the entire game.
We were defensively strong in the first half and converted whatever came our way to go in at halftime on a scoreline of SGA 0-07, Drom Broadford 0-04.
They made a few positional changes at half time which seemed to work as they were level 10 minutes into the second half and were getting stronger as the game went on. As they did in the first half, we struggled to get scores playing into the city end in the second half.
A goal mid-way into the second half left us with a big hill to climb. We reduced the margin to four points towards the end but losing out on a scoreline of 0-12 to 1-13.
There were 10 Athea players involved in this game getting valuable experience at this level.
Team: Tomas Ahern, James Hunt, Callum Buckley, Jack Sexton, Rory Cleary, Jamie Collins, Aidan Healy, Evan Curry, Kealan Lonergan, Fionn McNamara, Donnadh Daly, Dara Mullane, Tadhg Ahern, James Broderick, Billy Hogan Subs: Sean McEnery, Charlie McDonagh, Conor Fitzgerald.
