Club Fixtures:
Woodlands House Hotel County Premier Junior A Football Championship- Group 1-Round 3
Venue: Mountcollins. Date/time: Thursday September 25th 2025 at 7:45pm
Athea v Fr. Caseys-B
On Thursday, we meet our neighbours Fr. Caseys (B Team) in Mountcollins in Round 4 of the Championship. They currently sit three from three and on top of the table and we are joint second on four points. The match will be played under lights and let’s hope the weather is favourable. Last year we met them at Quarter final Stage and won on penalties after extra time in a thrilling game.
We are improving with each game and should be competitive in this game. A win will put Fr. Caseys through to the Semi-final whereas an Athea win will put us into the Knockout stages at least.
Woodlands House Hotel County Junior C Football Championship- Group 2-Round 4
Venue: Athea. Date/time: Sunday September 28th 2025 @ 2pm
Athea v Claughaun.
On Sunday our second team have their third match of the Junior C Championship at home at 2pm.
After the excitement in Meanus where we came away with a narrow win we meet a team who have also beaten Camogue Rovers but who lost to Glin last week.
On paper there won’t be much between the teams so let’s hope that the lads can capitalise on the home advantage and notch up a second win.
U16 Football:
Our U16 team travelled to the Bog Garden in Rathkeale on Sunday Morning for a Division 3 Shield Quarter Final against Cappagh Rathkeale. Both teams produced a fantastic highly competitive game of football with only a couple of scores separating the teams at any stage during the match. The game needed 20 mins of extra time before the times could be separated by narrowest of margins with Athea losing out on a scoreline of 2:11 to 1:15. The boys were disappointed to have lost such a tight battle but can take great consolation from the manner of their display. The management and supporters could not be prouder of this team who will definitely have better days ahead. Team: Eoin Ahern, John Ahern, Daniel Broderick, Jamie Brosnan, Paddy O’Conor, Jack Leahy, Mark Ahern (Capt), Daniel Hunt (0.01), Mark Collins, Tadhg Hunt, Kane Brouder (1.04), Tony Ambrose (0.01) Conor Leach, Aaron Broderick (1.04) Shane Ahern (0.01), Tom Mullane, Aaron Hunt, Cathal Fitzgerald, Se Ahern, Liam Og Reidy, Oisin McCarthy, Edward Kelly.
U14 Football:
We wish the best of Luck to our U14 football team who play the County Division 2 Shield Final in Mick Neville Park Rathkeale this Saturday 27th at 12:00noon against Ballybricken-Bohermore Croom, all support on the day would be greatly appreciated.
U12 Football:
We played our first game in the winter go-game league on Sunday evening last in Newcastlewest against a strong and very skillful home team. Even though our team were up against it for the entire match we still managed some excellent scores, worked hard and defended excellently to make sure Newcastlewest had to work hard for all their scores right until the final whistle. Training continues every Friday evening at 6:30 with the Parish League coming soon!
U8 Football:
Friday evening the Athea U8 Footballers played their end of year Parish Blitz at Park na nGeal. The boys and girls showcased the skills they have been working on all summer in front of a large crowd of supporters.
It was a brilliant evening of Football. The players have made great strives this year again, getting to grips with the skills of the game and gaining more confidence in their own ability in the sport. All players were presented with a medal and treat bags afterwards to acknowledge their fantastic commitment and efforts all year. It’s a very big group and we had 42 players from the ages of 6-8 years old taking part in this blitz, so the future of Athea GAA is in safe hands with them.
Thank you, to all parents of ensuring the kids are getting to attend training every week and ferrying players all over the county for Go Game Blitzs all summer. A huge thank you to all our Volunteer coaches, for their time, patience and enthusiasm to keep all the kids wanting to come back week after week, as without these volunteers the kids would miss out on the chance to have these wonderful experiences.
U10 Football:
Our U10 football season came to a close on Friday evening with our annual parish league, we had an amazing 40 players in attendance who took part in four very competitive games. This group have improved enormously throughout the year and it was great to see them showcase their skills on what turned out to be a great evening of football. Congratulations to the all the players who took part, we hope to see them playing for many years to come.
U8 Girls/U10 Girls:
Our U8 girls finished off their year with a fantastic Blitz hosted by Fr. Casey’s in Abbeyfeale this Sunday morning. They played three games, against Fr. Casey’s, ABK and Granagh Ballingarry. They really showed the progress they have made this year. It is almost a pity to be finishing for the year as many of the girls were becoming more competitive and enthusiastic. Thanks to the parents who made some long journeys early on Saturday and Sunday mornings, as without this commitment none of the girls would have had the opportunity to partake.
Well done to our U10’s who took to the field to play Fr Casey’s Glin and Monagea. There was great displays of football on show from each team and it’s great to see the girls confidence and talent grow after each game.
Huge thanks to Fr Casey’s for organising a great event and for their hospitality.

Hard luck to our intermediates who lost to Monaleen in intermediate B semi final on Sunday 21st in Cappagh last Sunday morning. They will now meet Adare on Saturday 4th October. Venue to be confirmed.
