Club Results:
County Minor A Football Championship Group 1
Shannon Gaels/ Athea 0-05. Dromcollogher Broadford 0-06
This game was played in Ballyhahill last Wednesday in the first round of the Minor A Championship. Athea were well represented in the team in this very evenly contested game.
The backs were well on top on both sides and wayward shooting played a big part in this low scoring game with a single point scored by each team in the second half. This was a very entertaining game nonetheless with the bare minimum between the teams in the finish.
The Drom Broadford fans who travelled really got behind their team throughout the game. In tight games the supporters can make all the difference and can lift their team through encouragement and by urging the team on.
The next game is on July 23rd 2025 against Adare. Venue to be confirmed.

County Fixtures:
Tailtean Cup – Final
Venue: Croke Park. Date/time: Saturday July 12th 2025 at 2:30pm
Limerick v Kildare
The footballers are in the Tailtean Cup final against Kildare on Saturday July 12th 2025 with throw-in at 2:30pm. This is the first of a Double-Bill as the All Ireland semi-final between Kerry and Tyrone throws in at 5pm.
The power of the 16th player shouldn’t be under estimated so put this date in your diary and support the footballers in whatever way that you can.

FRC Rule Amendment:
Amend Rule 2 – Set Play, 2.12 Mark, Play on immediately – Kick Out Mark,(b) (ii) to read as follows:
(ii) If the Player is illegally challenged, a free kick shall be awarded to the player’s team from the point at which the challenge is made, and this free kick may be taken by any player on that team.
This now means that the referee cannot bring the ball forward 50m if a player is fouled while he has called a mark from a kickout. It will instead be a free from where the challenge is made.

U16 League Final:
Athea 11.13 St Patricks 3.7
Huge well done to our U16 girls who had a Brillant win to finish their league campaign.
Our girls started the game well with few early scores which settled them into the game. They continued to play some great football with a good supply of ball going into the forwards who startled the back of the net on a number of occasions. However St. Patricks came back into it with a few well taken points before half time – Athea lead by 5 points at the break. In the second half our girls continued to work hard in all positions ,the backs did dome great defending ,midfield and forwards played some great football and we got more scores on the scoreboard .We dominated in most positions for the rest of the second half and ran out winners on a convincing score line .All the training and matches that they girls have done this year have paid off with a great win .They showed great skill, determination and brillant team work.
