Club Results:
Lynkeo Civil Engineering LTD West Junior A Football Competition Semi-final
Athea 1-08 St. Kierans 1-09
In a game where we were in front for most of the match the team will have come away from this one wondering how we lost the game last Tuesday in Ardagh.
We got off to a good start going four points up before St Kierans got their first score which was a two pointer free in the 19th minute. They followed up with a point from play and another two pointer free in the next three minutes. A Brian O Connor goal after a strong run from Shane Mulvihill put us in front again before St Kierans narrowed the gap to two points just before half time on a scoreline of Athea 1-05 St. Kierans 0-06.
After the restart BOC added a point from play to extend our lead however we were very wasteful in the second half only adding a further two points to our tally. The home team finished the stronger and got the game back to a two point game by the 24th minute. As we continued to struggle in front of goal, we were all too casual at the back when a series of hand passes when under pressure lead to an interception and a slick move towards goal which was neatly finished to the net by the home side with one minute to go. The referee allowed very little injury time and blew the whistle with no opportunity for us to have one final attack. This surely was a match that got away from us and one from which we must learn. St. Kierans advance to the West Final on a scoreline of 1-09 to our 1-08. Team Gerard Ahern, Sean Twomey, Tommy Quaid, Eoin Sheahan, Callum Buckley, Alan Kelly, Andy Ahern, Martin Chawke, Eoin O’Shea, Daire O Shea, TJ Hunt,0-02, Evan Curry, Sean Ryan 0-03, Dylan Griffin 0-2, Brian O Connor 1-01 Subs Used: Shane Mulvihill, Andrew O’Riordan, Tadhg Ahern.

Limerick v Wicklow
Croke Park beckons as the footballers take on Wicklow. The two met earlier this year and finished all square in their Division 4 league match. Limerick are playing a nice brand of football and are building a good team who will be competitive in this competition. With James Naughton having an outstanding season, there are others who are showing well in games and let’s hope they can do it this Sunday.

County Fixtures:
All Ireland Senior Hurling Quarter Final

Dublin v Limerick
After a disappointing Munster Final, the Hurlers are back in Croke Park this Saturday at 4pm where they take on Dublin in a game they will be expected to win and advance to the Semifinal where Kilkenny await the winners.
So for those of you who want to make the weekend out of it, this weekend is your chance so see both Senior Teams in action in Croke Park-a very rare occurrence by all accounts.

U14 Girls league Final:
On Thursday last Athea / Glin Emmetts made the journey Croagh to play Cappagh in the U14 B Final. Our girls started well and lead at half time on a score line of 1.5 to 2pt despite playing against a strong breeze, There was some great scores and good interconnecting football from our forwards Shauna Collins, Anna Murphy, Aoife Sheehan, Emma Sweeney, Kate Moloney and Sarah Barrett. In the second half we started well and our mid field were well on top thanks to the very hard working pair Laura Healy and Lily Carmody. With 10 minutes remaining we lead by 7pts but Cappagh never gave up and scored a two goals in the last few minute of to force a draw. Athea /Glin Emmets 2.8 to 4.2.
Extra time followed with 10 min per half, both teams to failed to score in the first. The deadlock was broken when super sun Clodagh O’ Mahoney scored a well taken goal and this was followed up by a pint from the boot of Aoife Sheehan we were ahead by 4 with 4 mins remaining. Cappagh again refused to fade and scored a goal with 2 mins to go and left us with a narrow 1pt lead, Cappagh threw every thing in the dying minutes at our girls but thanks to the unreal defending from our backs Lauren Healy, Aine Ahern, Ella Collins, Aoife Nora Lyons, Maeve Dunne and Holly O’ Connor and our brilliant goalie Lily Rose Hewitt the girls managed to secure the win by the narrowest of margins.
