The older players showed all their football skills learned the last few years and provided get encouragement to the young players learning the skills. Well done to Louth who won the Delaney Cup for the first time in 68 years in Croke Park against Meath on a scoreline of 3-14 to 1-18. A great day for the Wee County.
West Junior B Championship:
Athea 4:17 St. Senans 1:05
After an exciting league campaign we began our Championship trail on Monday evening at home against St. Senans. We had five points on the board to St. Senans single point when the visitors scored a fortuitous goal after nine minutes after a 45 was spilled with the ball scrambled to the net. They then won a penalty only to put it over the bar midway in the first half. This was as good as it would get for St. Senans. We got to half time remarkably only one point up for all our dominance. The scoreline was 0-08 to 1-04.
In the second half, we were totally dominant scoring 4-09 to their single point to run out easy winners on a scoreline of 4-17 to 1-05. Both Mark Reidy and Sean Ryan accounted for 2-12 in this match with James Broderick and Rory Cleary scoring the other goals.
Overall it was a very solid team performance with good passing movement throughout.
This was a good runout ahead of the County League final which is coming up in the next two weeks. Team Tomas Ahern, Jack O’Connor, Conor Fitzgerald, Cillian O’Connor, Philip Daly, Martin Chawke, Jason Kelly, Tadhg Ahern, Andy Ahern 0-01, Michael Tierney, Mark Reidy 1-07(0-04F), Sean Twomey 0-01, James Hunt 0-02, Sean Ryan 1-05, David O ‘Connor, James Broderick 1-0, Rory Cleary 1-01, Jamie Collins, Dan McMahon, Neilus Hunt, Emmet White.
