Bons Secours Hospital City East West Junior A League Round 4: We made the trip to Coolyroe for Round 4 of the City East West Junior A League on Sunday afternoon. In very fine weather conditions Shane Mulvihill got us off to a good start with an early free and a point from play. Castlemahon responded well with four points without reply before Dylan Griffin narrowed the gap to one with a point with a fine effort off his left. He shortly afterwards had a great goal chance blocked. Castlemahon scored a fortuitous goal in the 23rd minute when a high ball spilled straight to James Guinea who scrambled the ball into the
net. Athea finished off the half with two points, Andrew O Riordan putting over a 45 and Shane pointing from play leaving the half time score 1:05 to 0:06. Evan Curry won the throw in and powered through to score a fine point on the restart. This was followed by a free from Shane to narrow the gap to the minimum. Castlemahon added a further point before Andrew
struck the side stanchion as a goal looked at his mercy. Shane added a further free and Brian O Connor pointed again to get the margin back to 1 point. However, Castlemahon hit a period of dominance midway in the second half scoring 1:03 without reply. Within that period, we had goal chances from Sean Ryan who hit the post and Dylan who narrowly missed. Dylan from play and Shane Mulvihill from a free added late points to reduce the margin to 0:05 points. This was a game where we missed four good goal chances which proved costly.
The final score was Castlemahon 2:11 Athea 0:12.
