West Junior B League – Round 2:
We made the short trip north to Glin for Round 2 of the West Junior B league on Sunday. The match was played in sunny conditions with the wind advantage in favour of Glin in the first half which proved to be instrumental in this game as the home side built a strong lead by half time.
Glin had notched up 2 points before Mark Reidy picked out Michael Walsh with a ball over the top and Michael found the net. Glin had scored a further 2:06 before we got our next score when Andy Ahern pointed from play. Tomas Ahern made some great saves throughout but was under constant pressure from a fast young Glin forward line who found the net twice more before half time.
The half time score was 4:09 to 1:01.
Playing with the wind in the second half Andy Ahern pointed early and had two screaming chances of goal which went just wide of the post later on. Mark Reidy followed up with the first of his brace of two pointers before Rory and Colm both split the posts. A soft Glin goal soon arrested our gallop before Michael Walsh and Martin Chawke added points.
Mark Reidy landed his second two pointer late in the game before Glin closed out the game with the final point. The final score was Glin 5:14 Athea 1:10.
This game saw the return of Gavin Ambrose and Neilus Hunt as well as a debut for Jamie Collins at the Junior B ranks.
At this stage in the season 21 players have got a run which is great to see. Thanks to the growing group of supporters who were in attendance.
