Under 16’s:
Our U16’s boys team had a challenge match Sunday against a strong Listowel team. This was the first outing for this young team, it was a good run out in preparation for the new season and a good experience to learn the new rules and pitch layout.

Mens Team:
West Junior B League – Round 1
After a few years absence, it was great to see a Junior B Team lineout again for the club in Round 1 of the West Junior B league on Sunday. The pitch was in great condition and immaculately lined for this opening home game against Askeaton Ballysteen Kilcornan.
The game was played in a very sporting manner throughout and was evenly contested for most of the match.
There was a good blend of experience and youth in this team with the combination of Martin Chawke and Tadhg Ahern at midfield. Our half back line and half forward line was made up of experienced players who kept things solid.
Rory Cleary Hassett opened the scoring for Athea and was later matched by dad Colm who put over a free. Tadhg Ahern also added a point. Mark Reidy kicked the first two pointer in Pairc na nGael from outside the new 40m arc. Mark added to his tally through well taken frees in both halves.
The half time score was level at 0:08 to 1:05.
Aidan Curry scored a point in either half and had a well palmed goal attempt saved on the line in the second half. Michael Walsh showed good hands to fetch a high ball in the middle from a long kickout from Tomas Ahern.
We made hard work out of scoring in the second half and registered just three points to their 1:04. Their goals ultimately proved to be the difference.
Sean Twomey made his debut and did well at this level. Conor Fitzgerald was steady at full back as was Cillian O’Connor in the other corner.
Conor Mulvihill made his comeback for Athea and was lively throughout showing a good turn of foot for a man making his return. Emmet White and Dan McMahon also played their part coming on as subs. The final score was Athea 0:11 Askeaton Ballysteen Kilcornan 2:09.
Overall, there were plenty of positives and things to work on before our next match which is away to Glin next Sunday at 2pm. Panel Tomas Ahern, Sean Twomey, Conor Fitzgerald, Cillian O’Connor, Jason Kelly, Andy Ahern, Luke Gleeson, Tadhg Ahern, Martin Chawke, Michael Tierney, Mark Reidy, Rory Cleary Hassett, Colm Hassett, Aidan Curry, Michael Walsh, Dan McMahon, Emmet White, Conor Mulvihill
