Athea GAA Club Notes:

U20s Shannon Gaels Athea:
Shannon Gaels/ Athea 1 -07 Adare 0-05
We had a hard fought win in difficult underfoot conditions in Askeaton last Saturday in the county U20 football semifinal. We dominated the first half but only led 4 points to 2, have missed a few scoring opportunities. Adare were on top for the first fifteen minutes of the second half, but our defence were excellent and every player worked very hard. Adare only managed 1 point in this period. Tomás Ahern pulled off a couple of great saves as well. We weathered their purple patch and then played our best football, keeping possession until the gaps appeared and scored 1-02 to put us up 1-07 to 0-04. Adare pressed forward again with 5 mins of added time to be played but we defended well only conceding 1 more point for a deserving win. The football may not have been great but the work rate was and this time of year that’s what you need.
Team Tomás Ahern, James Hunt, Calum Buckley, Maurice Fitzgerald, Connor Fitzgerald, Cormac Thompson, Aiden Healy, Evan Curry, Tadhg Ahern, Billy Hogan, Sean Mckenry, James Broderick, Rory Cleary, Donnach Daly, Daire O Shea, Subs Jamie Collins, Charlie McDonnagh, AJ Behan, Michael Walsh, Donnacha Barrett, Fergal Leahy. Sean Twomey, Jack Sexton.
We now play Cappagh/Rathkeale in the final on Saturday Dec 21st at 1pm. Possibly in Askeaton, but with the rain forecast this could change. Best of luck to the team and management who have put in a big effort and are deserving of as much support as possible.
