U20s:
SGAGaels 1-11 Askeaton Ballysteen Kilcornan 1-05
Our U20 SGA Gaels mens team hosted ABK in Athea on Saturday afternoon in the first game of the Championship. This was a very competitive match from the start, with scores and great pieces of play from both teams. Halfway through the first half SGA had the upper hand, putting over some great points, but could have been further ahead, with some dropping short. With 5 mins to go we were deservedly leading by 4 points, but ABK upped the tempo and scored a goal, followed by a point to level the score at halftime.
At the start of the second half SGA showed their intent by scoring a point within the first minute. From then on the SGA lads kept putting more pressure on ABK and were starting to win most of the battles on the field. We then hit the back of the net to put some daylight between the 2 teams.
Going into the final 5 minutes we were under a lot of pressure, but fantastic play from the SGA players kept ABK out. SGA won deservedly with a scoreline of 1:11 to 1:05
Our Athea players played pivotal roles in the win: Daire O Shea, Evan Curry, Calum Buckley, James Hunt, Tomás Ahern, Tadhg Ahern, Rory Cleary, Sean twomey, James Broderick, Jack Sexton, Fionn Histon and Jamie Collins.
