Athea GAA Club Notes:

Developments at Pairc na nGael:
Our gym space has been cleared out and painted in anticipation of the arrival of the new equipment in the coming days. Plans are also in place to install robotic mowers in the club grounds to assist us in maintaining the pitch, thanks to funding secured from the Sports Capital Grant.

U16 County Final:
The Griffins/Glin/Athea U16 football team are contesting the county div 2 final v Oola in Mick Neville park on this Saturday Oct 19th at 11.45. They had a hard earned win over Ahane in the semi-final and over Galtee Gaels in the quarter final. Best of luck to all involved and please give them your support.

Ladies Minor Team:
The Athea Ladies Minor team are back in training, with their first match scheduled for October 20th. More updates to follow.

Adult Men Team:
Our Adult men are playing Monagea in the Premier Junior Football semi-final on Sunday October 20th at 1pm in Abbeyfeale. The team were delighted to get over Fr Caseys in the quarter final after extra time and penalties. That was our 4th quarter final in recent years and after 3 previous losses, it was great to progress. The last time we contested a semi-final was in the intermediate grade in 2007 which we won, going on to defeat Galbally in the final. The team have been training well all year and have a good strong panel to choose from. Jonathan Fitzgerald got injured earlier in the year but hopes are high that he will be returning to training this week. There is a good mix of youth and experience in the panel, we have also benefited from the return from abroad of Andy Ahern, Brian O Connor and Kevin Murphy. We are calling on all our supporters to make the short journey to Abbeyfeale to support the team in their bid to reach the county final. U16s are free.
