Athea GAA Club Notes:
Developments at Pairc na nGael:
New ball stop nets were installed last week at the Pairc na nGael in glorious weather. Thanks to all who support the development of our club through purchasing Club Draw Tickets, split the bucket, membership etc, allowing us to undertake these improvement works.
Nursery U6 Football:
There was great excitement in Pairc Na Gael Athea when out u6 superstars took part in a mini blitz on the final night. Each player played their part in a fabulous evening. Huge thank you to the coaches and parents in helping run the event.
U10 Girls:
Our u10 girls finished off the season in style playing in Abbeyfeale against the host team. There was great football skills on show from both teams. Huge thank you to Fr Casey’s for their hospitality. We are already looking forward to seeing them back on the field in 2025
U12 Go Games League:
On a fabulous evening for football our U12s took on Fr. Caseys in the second last round of the Go-Games league in picturesque Athea on Tuesday evening last. In Keeping with the Indian Summer conditions both teams produced some Samba Football for those lucky enough to be in attendance. The game started at a ferocious pace and continued at the same tempo for each of the four 12min quarters. Both teams demonstrated great skills, excellent team work and phenomenal work rate as the ball moved from end-to-end within seconds. The tigerish defending was equally matched with excellent score taking in what turned out to be a very high scoring game of football by two evenly matched teams. Best for Athea on the evening was everybody; Aine Ahern, Grace Ahern, Kieran Sheehan, Conor Hayes, Oran Hayes, Noah Nash, Tiarnan Fitzgerald, Edward Kelly, Jontie Wielding, Colton Brouder, Niamh Hickey, Elle Collins, Anna Murphy, Josiha Wielding, Aaron McCabe, Fionn Hunt, Shane Ahern and Oisin McCarthy.
Athea U12 Boys enjoyed a well-deserved break following their semi-final factory in the Billy Kirwan tournament in Foynes. Thanks to the St. Senan’s club for the invite and to be part of their club fun day which is always a well organised event and great day out.
U14 Girls:
Our u14 girls made the trip to St Pats
in Ahane last Saturday. The opening exchanges were even but after some great play and scores Athea found themselves up by 5 points at half time. Ahane fought back well in the second half and levelled with 15 mins to go.
Momentum was in their favour and they won out in the end.
Although silverware excluded them the girls had a great season and it’s thanks to the dedication of their coaches Stephen O’ Rourke, Mary Hunt and Liz O’ Sullivan.
U14 Boys:
Our U14 boys will contest the Division 2 county final V Mungret St Pauls on Sunday 29th September @ 10.30am in Mick Neville, Rathkeale. Best of luck to the boys and their coaches.
Junior Men:
We play our neighbours Fr Caseys, Abbeyfeale in the county Junior premier football championship 1/4 final on this Thursday night at 8p.m. in Mountcollins under lights. This is a very important game for our boys as they aim to reach a county semi final for the first time since 2007, when we went on to win the Intermediate Championship. We have trained well this year with all the players putting in a big effort, and there is a good mix of youth and experience in the team. We are hopeful of putting in a big performance, but having lost the last 3 quarter finals we have contested, we will be taking nothing for granted.
A good crowd is expected to travel to the game especially with local bragging rights at stake, against our neighbours. Tickets – https://limerickgaa.ie/buy-club-championship-tickets/
