Athea GAA Club Notes:

U8 Girls:
Our U8 Girls attended a Blitz Saturday evening hosted by Fr. Caseys. Our girls played some brilliant football throughout, working hard for each other and really enjoying themselves. Special thanks to Fr Casey’s for their hospitality and the teams from Monagea, Granagh/ Ballingarry and Glin for the great games.

U10 Girls:
Our ladies made the trip to Kilcornan last Wednesday night. This was our biggest turn out for this year. They played some great football against Croom. Girls have made huge improvements in their skills this year. Thanks to the parents for their support and to ABK for hosting us.

U12 Girls:
Huge well done to our U12’s who played Gerald Griffins in a great game of football last Friday night. Although they are small in number they are huge in skill and determination.

U12 Football Go-Games:
Our U12 footballers travelled to lovely Adare on Tuesday evening last and played a great game of football against a very good Adare side. The Teams were evenly matched with some great scores kicked by both sides and excellent team work on display. Our Team is improving with every training session and game. We have only 2 more games left in the season and will finish our 2024 activities with an end of year Parish League in early October.

U14 Hurling:

U14 Boys:
Best of luck to the Athea U14 Boys in the Division 2 County semi final v Kildimo Pallaskenry in Mick Neville Park, Rathkeale on Saturday September 14th at 10am.

U16 Semi final:
There was huge disappointment on Monday night when our U16’s travelled to Ballylanders to have no ref turn up for the match. This game will now be rescheduled for next Monday 16th September at 6.30 venue to be confirmed.

Intermediate Ladies Quarter Final:
Our ladies bowed out of this year’s Championship against Mungret on Sunday evening but not without a fight. Having conceded 1.1 in the opening five minutes it was always going to be an uphill battle to get back into the game. The margin could have been less at half time only for missed goal chances and wides. The fight back continued in the second half but conceding goals at crucial moments of the game was key to Mungrets win. The girls can be proud of their exploits. Huge thanks to the management team of Mike Reidy, David O’ Connor and Liz O’ Sullivan for their expertise. The girls have learned a lot about the fast moving pace at intermediate level and will only come back stronger next year.
