Athea GAA Club Notes:

Sympathy:
Athea GAA Club would like to pass on our sympathies to the family, friends and neighbours of the late John O’Connell who passed away recently. John had a huge influence on the development of the parish over the years, and his presence will be dearly missed by all. May he rest in peace.

Dog Fouling:
The situation on the playing pitch has gotten very bad over the last few weeks, with dog poo all over the playing area. This is a serious health risk to all who play on the club’s pitches. The faeces sticks to the footballs and sliotars, it gets on peoples hands, clothes and other parts of their bodies. We are asking the many responsible Dog owners, who use our grounds to pass on information to any club member, if they see any dog let loose by their owners or a stray dog around the pitches. Please give a description of the dog(colour, breed, size etc). If this continues, unfortunately we will have to follow the steps of other clubs and ban all dogs from our ground. We are once again appealing for the public’s help in this serious matter.

U14 Ladies:
Athea 2.11 Brosna/ Knocknagoshal 2.8
Huge well done to our U14’s tonight who played Brosna/Knocknagoshal in a very entertaining challenge match last Tuesday night. It was end to end stuff with some great scores from both sides. Thanks to Brosna / Knocknagoshal for for the great game as the girls prepare for their next championship game against Gerald Griffins Thursday 15th.

U18 Mens:
Round 4 Shannon Gaels/Athea 2-17 Newcastle West 3-3
We had our strongest team out so far this year with all our big players available and we put in a good performance to run out 11 point winners. It wasn’t all plain sailing, as there was only 4 points between the teams midway through the second half, before we pulled away with a Sean Mckenery goal and some well taken points. We had led at half time 1-9 to 1-3. We got a walkover from Drom/Broadford in round 5, but despite this we are out of the championship, having lost to Adare and Askeaton/Ballysteen/Kilcornan. On both occasions we were without some of our top players which greatly hampered our chances.
Team, Fionn Histon, Tadhg Ahern, Calum Buckley, Sean twomey, Jamie Collins, James Hunt(capt), Rory Cleary, Evan Curt, Sean McKenry, Fionn McNamara, Jack Sexton, Daire Mullane, Conor Fitzgerald, Kealon Lonergan, Donnach Daly, subs, Tomás M Ahern, Tomás G Ahern, Fergal Leahy and Jim Culhane.
