Athea GAA Club Notes:

Save the Date – APRIL 13th:
There is a big day planned at the ClubHouse on Saturday April 13th, where we will get behind Carol Liston O Connor & Family in their fundraising efforts. More details to follow next week, the event promises to be a fun occasion and one you won’t want to miss!

Tarbert Comprehensive Boys Team:
Congratulations to the Tarbert Comprehensive Senior Boys Gaelic Football Team who had a fantastic victory defeating Mercy SS, Longford after extra time in the All Ireland Post Primary Dr Éamonn O’Sullivan Cup Semi Final last weekend. After extra time, Tarbert won 2:18 – 2:15 congrats to all involved, especially Athea players Evan Curry, Callum Buckley and James Broderick and Stephen Kearney (grandson of Timmy Woulfe).

Coláiste Íde agus Iosef Hurling:
Hard luck to the Athea boys on the Colaiste Ide Agus Iosef Hurling panel who lost the Munster schools u17 E final today. They were Jamie O Mahony, Jack Sexton, Jamie Collins, Timmy O Keeffe, Louis O Sullivan, and Tomás Ahern. The final score was colaiste ide agus Iosef 2-17, Gaelcholáiste luimní 3-17

West Limerick Mackey Cup Hurling Panel:
Congratulations to Kane Brouder who made it through to the Mackey Hurling Trials and was selected to be on the West Limerick Mackey Cup Panel.

Limerick Gaelic Masters Squad 2024:
Well done and best wishes to Michael Reidy who is on the Limerick Gaelic Masters Squad Panel for 2024.

Healthy Athea:
We are so sorry to hear of the recent loss of committee member Philomena. Philomena was a valued member of our committee there was no task too small or big and was always on hand to help out. We would like to offer our sincere sympathies to all the Keily and Kiely families. May she rest in peace.

The monies received are used towards: maintenance and development of facilities, playing equipment, affiliation fees, insurance, utility bills, team preparation and other administrative costs.
Please note – All players, coaches, mentors and committee members need to be registered before participating in training/matches for the upcoming year. Players must be covered by the Player Injury Sport fund, in the event of any injuries whilst representing the club. Guardians must ensure that all Youth players are registered.

Club Limerick Draw:
Tickets are now on sale for the Annual Club Limerick Draw (formally Mackey Draw). Please be aware the following applies to the sale of Limerick Club Draw Tickets –
1. 50% of the proceeds of ticket sales goes to Athea GAA
2. The more Club Limerick Draw tickets we sell, the more Limerick County Football/Hurling Championship Final tickets the Club will have access to
3. The Draw supports the development of the Limerick County Teams.
There will be one draw a month for 10 months made up of one €10,000 monthly prize, 28 Additional Cash Prizes each Month plus an exclusive STAR Prize.
Tickets are currently on sale through Club Force at a discounted price of €90 until March 1st.

Split the Bucket:
Congratulations to Tommy Quaid who was this week’s winner of Split the Bucket, going home with the grand total of €387. The next draw will take place on Monday March 11th. Envelopes can be purchased at Dick Whites, Collins Shop, O’ Riordan’s Pharmacy, Athea Credit Union, Brown Joes, Batts,Bingo at Con Colbert Hall on Friday nights, Chinese Takeaway, Gables Grill and during events at Pairc na nGael. Thanks to everyone for your continued support.

Ireland Lights Up:
In conjunction with Operation Transformation, Athea GAA will host the Annual Ireland Lights Up Walks on Thursday evenings from 7pm – 8pm, running from January 11th – February 29th. Those who sign up & attend the full 8 week programme will be entered into a draw to win 1 of 30 free Healthy Ireland Goodie Bags.

Athea GAA & LGFA Dinner Dance:
Looking forward to celebrating the success of our ladies team this Friday night in the Devon Inn. The Kelts will be entertainment followed by DJ excel late into the night.

County Teams:
The club was well represented last weekend on the county teams at a number of age groups. Rebecca Colins lined out at wing forward against a strong Clare side on Saturday. Geraldine Carmody was between the post on Sunday when the U16 B team drew with Clare 1.6 to 9 pts.
While Grace Hunt and Maeve Murphy lined out with the U16A team against Clare where they defeated the home side 2.12 t 1.10.
Well done girls and best of luck in the next round.

Minor league:
This Sunday 3rd March sees the start of the minor league where they will meet Gerald Griffins in Ballyhahill at 11.

Clothes Collection:
Our next clothes collection will be Monday 13th May. Start that spring clear early. Do not discard any clothing material in household waste. Drop them up to the field. Funds generated from this collection goes to buying new equipment for the season ahead.
