ATHEA
U13, U12, U11, U9 & U7 Football
We had another busy schedule last week in Coiste na nOg with over 65 different players playing in various matches in one week:
Our U11s were first out away to Feohanagh Castlemahon on Tuesday last again fielding two teams and playing excellent football with some great team play, passing and some great scores:
On Thursday evening we welcomed highflying Monaleen to Athea in the 6th round of the u13 league, this was a very competitive game which we eventually lost 2:6 to 0:4 however we hit the post/crossbar on 3 occasions. Monaleen are an excellent team and our boys pushed them all the way.
Our U9s took to field in Athea on Friday evening against St.Kierans again fielding two teams, Athea played very well and their skills are improving with every training session and match
On Saturday morning we had 20 u7 players line out against Killeedy in Athea in a mini blitz with 3 Athea teams getting plenty of game time
Finally on Saturday our u12s played Shannon Gaels in Athea in a challenge match, Athea played some fantastic attacking football and capped of a great week of football for our underage teams.
U17 Football

We were well beaten by a strong Adare team on Wednesday last in Glin. Best for Shannon Gaels were Tomas Ahern,Tadhg Ahern, Aidan Healy and Billy Hogan.

Pitch Development
Over the last two months the club has invested in the maintenance of the main pitch to keep it to a high standard. Starting with worm treatment earlier in the year we applied fertiliser to take us into May when we carried out sanding and hollow tining. We have since sprayed weed killer and applied further fertiliser.
The pitch should now start to show strong grass and will need regular cutting.
We have invested €6000 this year carrying out the above works.
Hopefully the money is well spent and will stand to us this winter. You can support this work by supporting our club draw below.
