Askeaton/Ballysteen/Kilcornan GAA Notes:
West Intermediate Football League Result:
Askeaton/Ballysteen/Kilcornan 4-10 Gerald Griffins 3-12
Our intermediate footballers remained unbeaten in the West Intermediate Football League following an exciting one point win versus Gerald Griffins last Tuesday night. An impressive return of 4-03 from play from our inside forward line of Fiachra Butler-White, Colm O’Flaherty and Sam Duggan laid the foundations for our win. Raiding runs from our two half backs Evan Costelloe and Niall Barry kept us on the front foot throughout and resulted in some lovely attacking play. Debutant Cormac McMahon worked tirelessly at half forward in a very youthful line up. This win sees us qualify for the league semi final with a game to spare following 3 wins and a draw from our 4 games. Team and scorers Jamie Dolan
Callum Daly, Eoin Condon, John Fitzsimons, Evan Costello 0-1, Alan McGrath, Niall Barry, Sean Whelan 0-1, Padhraic McMahon, Cormac McMahon, Padhraic Murphy 0-01, Tomas Sheahan 0-04, Fiachra Butler-White 1-01, Colm O Flaherty 1-01, Sam Duggan 2-01.
Under 13 Football Championship:
ABK Desmonds 0-05 Dromcollogher/Broadford 2-02
Our under 13 footballers fell to a 3 point defeat on Thursday night in the second round of the under 13 football championship. Following our last gasp win versus St Kierans in round 1 this game was to prove another tight affair with the result in doubt right up until the final whistle. The concession of two first half goals was to prove costly and we failed to close Drom Broadfords half time lead of 6 points despite some great efforts for goals.
Overall a hugely spirited second half fightback from the team in very wet conditions with good performances from young guns Josh O’Donoghue and Conor Sheahan.
We play Monagea in our last group game where a win could see us through to the County semi final. All three teams in the group are now on 2 points. Team and scorers Darragh Moran, Jake Gallagher, Niall Sheehy, Josh O’Donoghue, Conor Sheahan, Oisin O’Connor 0-1, Paddy Nealon, Cian Somers, ichael O’Shaughnessy, Eoghan Kelly, Danny Anglim 0-4, Kayden Delahunty, Paidi Sheehy, Sean Greene, Odhran Walsh. Sub used Cathal O’Donoghue.
West Intermediate Football League:
Askeaton-Ballysteen-Kilcornan 2-09 Glin 1-07
Our intermediate footballers played their final league group game on Saturday running out 5 point winners over Glin in Ballysteen. This result means we finish top of our group following 4 wins and a draw and qualify for the West intermediate football league semi final where we will play neighbours St Senans.
Two well taken second half goals from Padhraic Murphy and Colm O’Flaherty proved the difference in Saturdays encounter. Our first goal from Padhraic Murphy came from a great run along the endline by Paul O’Shaughnessy. O’Shaughnessy beat his man before laying a perfect pass across the square for Murphy to punch to the net. Colm O’Flaherty followed this up with a fine finish to bring his tally to 1-03 and wrap up the two points. Team and scorers
Brian Neville, John Fitzsimons, Eoin Condon, Callum Daly, Niall Barry, Shane Hallinan, Bill Casey, Alan McGrath 0-1, Jamie O Sullivan, Cormac McMahon, Padhraic McMahon, Padhraic Murphy 1-3, Paul O’Shaughnessy 0-1, Fiachra Butler-White 0-1, Colm O’Flaherty 1-3. Subs used Sean Whelan, Danny O Flaherty, Evan Costelloe, Shane Hanrahan.
Bord na nÓg Blitzs:
Our under 8 hurlers played some fantastic hurling at their blitz in Killeedy on Saturday last. For many this was their first time wearing the club jersey and they did themselves proud. On Friday night we hosted an under 10 hurling blitz in Askeaton with our lads performing very, again well done to all.
Inter County Players:
Well done to Brooklyn Delahunty who scored 1-02 for the Limerick under 16 footballers in their defeat to Wicklow in Askeaton on Saturday and also to Darragh O’Shaughnessy who played for the Limerick under 15s who defeated Clare and lost narrowly to Wexford.
Club Limerick Draw:
Well done to Eileen Fitzgerald and Cormac McMahon who both won €300 in this Months club Limerick draw.
