Askeaton/Ballysteen/Kilcornan GAA Club Notes:
West Intermediate Football League Semi Final:
Askeaton-Ballysteen-Kilcornan 4-08 St Senans 2-09
A third quarter scoring burst from our intermediate footballers made all the difference in our local derby West Intermediate Football League semi final clash versus neighbours St Senans in Foynes on Monday night. Paul O’Shaughnessy and Shane Gallagher palmed two goals to the net in the opening half to send us in at half time one point clear on a scoreline of 2-04 to 1-06. The game was decided in the third quarter when ABK’s incisive attacking play carved open the St Senans defence on numerous occasions resulting in firstly a beautiful finish from half back Evan Costelloe to the Senans net which was followed by our third palmed goal of the evening when Padhraic Murphy cut through the defence and unselfishly teed up midfielder Sean Whelan to punch to the net. Goalkeeper Jamie Dolan put us ten clear with a huge two pointer free to put the result beyond doubt. To Senans credit they responded with 1-02 in the closing stages to leave the final score 4-08 to 2-09 in our favour.
We will play the winners of Cappagh and Glin in the West Final. Well done to all involved.

West Junior A Hurling League:
Askeaton-Ballysteen-Kilcornan 1-15 Killeedy 2-13
A late late injury time goal from Killeedy denied our junior A hurlers victory last Tuesday night in their West Junior A Hurling league clash away to Killeedy. A first half goal from the stick of Jamie Dolan put us in at half time one point to the good on a scoreline of 1-07 to 0-09. Second half points from play from Fiachra Butler-White, Colm O’Connell and Jack Ward looked to have given us victory until Killeedys late sucker punch goal left us empty handed.
Next up for the Juniors is our final group game away to Rathkeale on Friday night.
Teams and scorers Rob Whelan, Niall Barry, Alan McGrath, Cathal Moran, Padhraic McMahon, Eoin Condon, Paul Maher, Matthew Keaveney 0-7 frees, Colm O’Connell 0-1, Sean Whelan 0-1, Eoghan Grant, Senan O’Brien, Fiachra Butler-White 0-3, Jamie Dolan 1-1, Jack Ward 0-2. Under 13 County Hurling League:
ABK Desmonds 4-06 Dromcollogher/Broadford 3-07
Our under 13 hurlers enjoyed a hard fought two point win over Dromcollogher Broadford in the field on Thursday night to make it two wins from two in the Under 13 Hurling league.
A win over Monagea in our final group game will see us qualify for the County Semi Final.
3 goals from Danny Anglim along with 3 excellent second half long range frees from Dylan O Connor proved just about enough to shake off a determined Drom Broadford tonight. Niall Sheehy goaled in the opening ten minutes with Daragh Whelan and Jack Fitzgibbon also chipping in with a point each putting us a goal to the good at half time. Michael O’Shaughnessy provided great relief for the half back line with some great clearances throughout the game. Well done to all involved. West Junior A Hurling League:
Askeaton-Ballysteen-Kilcornan 1-21 Rathkeale 2-10
Our Junior A Hurlers booked their place in the West Junior A League semi final winning their final group game versus Rathkeale by 8 points in Sean Finn Park Rathkeale on Friday night. Boosted by the return of our inter county panellist Oisin O’Farrell we finished strongly to run out deserved winners. Oisin wracked up an impressive haul of 0-16 with 10 of that total coming from play and was ably assisted by points from Matthew Keaveney, Sean Whelan, Senan O’Brien, Colm O’Connell and Jack Ward. Substitute Donagh McEnery put the game beyond any doubt with our only goal of the game with five minutes remaining. Great to see 25 players togged out for our second game in 4 days and we now have two league semi finals to look forward to for both our junior A Hurlers and intermediate footballers in the next week or so.
