Askeaton/Ballysteen/Kilcornan GAA Club Notes:
Ita Madigan tournament Final:
ABK Desmonds 2-14 /romcollogher Broadford 2-11
Our under 13 hurlers won a pulsating Ita Madigan tournament final under floodlights in the Ardagh Astro on Sunday night. It took a Darragh Moran goal in injury time to finally shake off a determined Drom Broadford challenge and spark great scenes of celebration. Full forward Moran opened the scoring with a goal in the second minute before a string of points from play from Donagh O Connor, Darragh Whelan (2), Jack Fitzgibbon and Danny Anglim (2) had us in a comfortable lead 1-6 to 0-2. Drom Broadford found their rhythm in the ten minutes before half time to narrow our lead to 2 points before 2 Darragh Moran frees sent us in at half time leading by 1-8 to 0-6.
Drom Broadford started the second half with a tonic goal to cut the gap to just two points before Danny Anglim hit two long range points to keep our noses infront. With just five minutes remaining Drom Broadford drew level for the first time and looked the more likely to go on and take the cup but our lads dug deep and Dylan O Connor was the coolest man in Ardagh as he converted a 65 to put us back in the lead. Drom Broadford hit back with an equaliser before Donagh O Connor hit a great point from the wing. With the game level deep into injury time Danny Anglim gave us the lead yet again with a point on the run before Darragh Moran stepped up to put the game beyond doubt and smash home the winning goal and secure a great win for ABK Desmonds.
Well done to Dromcollogher Broadford who contributed to a very entertaining game and also to St Kierans GAA for organising such a well run tournament over the last 4 weekends.
