ABK and Crecora ends all square in Hurling Championship:
County Junior A Premier Hurling Championship Round 4
ABK 1-17 Crecora-Manister 2-14
A 63rd minute free from Cathal O’Neill denied our Junior A Hurlers all two points last Friday night in the Bog Garden as we had to settle for a share of the spoils after a gripping Championship encounter.
After 16 minutes we trailed by 9 points on a scoreline of 1-06 to 0-00 and failing to get any foothold in the game things looked bleak. However once Tadgh O’Brien got us on the scoresheet we suddenly clicked in to gear and inspired by a herculean effort from our inter county man Oisin O’Farrell we went on to dominate for large periods hurling with passion and plenty of skill.
It was O’Farrell who gathered a long delivery to smash to the roof of the Crecora net with 25 minutes on the clock to send us in at half time just four points adrift on a scoreline of 1-09 to 1-05 despite playing against a strong breeze and playing second fiddle for long periods.
O Farrell started the second half on fire landing 4 points in 4 minutes to level the game for the first time. Crecora hit back with a goal against the run of play and led by 4 on a scoreline of 2-11 to 1-10 with 44 minutes played. However ABK showed their character once more and inspired by Matthew O’Meara, Tadgh Hanley, Alan McGrath and Matthew Keaveney we responded with points from O’Farrell, Tadgh O’Brien and a wonder score from Fiachra Butler to get back level with 7 minutes remaining.
An excellent Cathal Guerin save from Cathal O’Neill followed before O’Farrell landed a huge free to put us ahead for the first time all night with 59 minutes played. Substitute Willie O’Meara then landed a beauty from under the stand to a huge roar from the ABK support to put us two clear as we entered injury time. However Crecora Manister had the final say with two late points to send us home with a share of the spoils on a scoreline of 2-14 to 1-17.
Overall a very entertaining encounter and a great response to the round 3 set back versus St Patricks. With five points from our four games we are nicely positioned for knockout qualification. We face Monaleen in our final group game.
