Askeaton/Ballysteen/Kilcornan GAA Club Notes:

“Premier Junior A Hurling Championship gets underway”
Premier Junior A Hurling Championship
The 2025 Premier Junior A Hurling Championship gets underway this Thursday night when we play Tournafulla in Dromcollogher at 7pm. We will be hoping to avenge our West League Final defeat to the same opposition. Preparations have gone well with two recent challenge matches versus Templeglantine and Corks Dromina. We are in group 2 of this years Championship and will play Tournafulla, Monagea, St Patricks, Crecora Manister and Monaleen in that order.
Best of luck to all involved.
U16 Hurling Championship – Round 3:
Askeaton/Ballysteen/Kilcornan 8-13 Knockaderry 5-13
Another impressive display from our U16 hurlers saw them overcome a strong Knockaderry side in an action-packed encounter last Monday night.
We got off to a dream start with a goal inside the opening minute and pushed on to build an eight-point lead midway through the first half. Knockaderry responded well, closing the gap before the break, but we still went in ahead at half time, leading 3-6 to 2-5.
Knockaderry came out firing in the second half and cut the margin to just three points. However, our lads dug deep and responded brilliantly, producing some outstanding team scores to regain control of the game. A superb collective performance from start to finish—well done to all 20 players who played their part.
Team and scorers Martin Meehan, Nathan Dalton, Cormac Fitzgerald, Tom Kelly, Aaron Cregan, Eoin McNamara, Mark McDonagh, Todd O’Shaughnessy (c) (0-1), Cillian Murphy, Ryan O’Donoghue, Brooklyn Delahunty (3-6), Hugh Sheehy, Lorcan Blackwell (2-5), Danny Murphy (1-0), Harry O’Toole (1-1), Jack McDonagh, Donnacha O’Gorman, Rory Moran, Peter Hoda, Jimmy Harty (1-0).

Minor Football Championship:
ABK Desmonds 2-08 St Senans 1-12
Our minor footballers went down by the slimmest of margins last Wednesday night in a tight game versus our neighbours St Senans. After a slow start a late first half goal from Sean Downes brought ABK right back into it ending the half 2 points down on a scoreline of 1-2 to 7.
St. Senans opened the second half strongly, stretching their lead to 4 before ABK started to take control. Both sides exchanged goals with Martin Meehan netting for ABK, and Zach Birdthistle driving another chance off the crossbar. Coming down the final straight ABK had the majority of the possession but wayward shooting cost us.
Luca Zoncada made a welcome return to goals with his usual quality performance. Matthew Kehoe was very solid at the back, and the middle diamond of Cillian Murphy, midfielders Zach Birdthistle, Finn O’Gorman, and Sean Downes put in fine displays.
Up next are Hospital Herbertstown with a semi final spot still very much up for grabs.
Luca Zoncada, Paudie Hanrahan, Danny Murphy, Cathal Guerin, Conor McNamara, Cillian Murphy, Matthew Kehoe, Zach Birdthistle, Finn O Gorman 0-03 (1× 2pt), Dylan Costelloe
Sean Downes 1-04 (1 x 2pt), Darragh O’Shaughnessy, Shane Collins, Jamie Sheahan 0-01, Martin Meehan 1-00. Subs Sam Costello, Eoin McNamara, Nathan Dalton, Willie Russell.

Our under 12 footballers are off to Croke Park this week taking part in a national football blitz. It promises to be an amazing experience for our young players as they attempt to emulate the likes of Michael Murphy and David Clifford just two days after the All Ireland Football Final.
On Saturday morning the players were presented with a gear bag, training top and shorts and socks which were kindly sponsored by Joe Sheahan (scorer of our opening goal on a previous visit to Croke Park at the 2008 u12 blitz) and John McMahon of JML Construction. Joe took time out from his busy schedule gigging as the Joe Show to present the gear along with Paul McMahon representing JML Construction on Saturday morning after training. Also thanks to Curran Aluminium for their contribution to costs. On the pitch Danny Neville put the lads through their paces in their final training session before Croke Park and gave them a few tips should any goal chances arise. Best of luck to everyone travelling and enjoy the experience.
Under 11s:
Our under 11 footballers enjoyed a great morning last Friday playing in the Munster Council GAA activity day at the Gaelic Grounds. We played Silvermines, Hospital Herbertstown and South Liberties in three enjoyable games. Well done lads.
:
Last Saturday was a huge morning in the budding careers of our under 6 hurlers as they pulled on the club jersey for the very first time. They had a brilliant morning in Pallaskenry where they played Kildimo/Pallaskenry in some excellent games of hurling. Great skills and determination from all of our players, putting all the skills they are learning on show.
Special thanks to KP for hosting a great mornings hurling.
Under 8:
Well done to our u8 footballers who played a cluster blitz in Foynes last Saturday. There was some great football on display, keep it up lads.
