Askeaton/Ballysteen/Kilcornan GAA Club Notes:
Under 16 Hurling Championship Round One:
ABK Desmonds 7-16 Southside Gaels 5-07
Our under 16 hurlers made their long awaited seasonal debut on Monday night in Rhebogue when the County under 16 hurling championship finally got underway.
In their opening game, the lads put in a fantastic team performance to come away with a 7-16 to 5-07 win over a strong Southside Gaels side at the top-class St Patrick’s GAA grounds in Rhebogue.
We got off to a slow start, conceding an early goal and hitting a few wides, but once we settled, the scores started to flow and the defence tightened up. By half-time, we had built a solid lead of 5-7 to 2-1.
All five subs were introduced early in the second half to give tired legs a rest and valuable game time to the squad. That shook our rhythm a bit, and Southside enjoyed a strong spell, netting some fine goals of their own. But the lads regrouped and finished strongly, adding a couple of well-taken goals to seal the win.
Special mention to Brooklyn Delahunty, who was on fire with a man of the match performance, scoring 3-06 from play.
A brilliant all-round team effort and a great start to the championship campaign.

Minor Football Championship Round 1:
ABK Desmonds 4-13 Newcastle West 0-11
Our minor footballers got their championship campaign off to the perfect start with a comprehensive win versus Newcastle West in Askeaton on Wednesday night. Leading by 1-08 to 0-04 at half time we dominated the second half and topped off the victory with three excellent second half goals from Zach Birdthistle (2) and full forward Shane Ryan. We had excellent performances throughout the field especially from midfielder Danny O Flaherty and half forward Seanie Downes who finished top scorer with seven excellent points topped off with a fine two pointer from outside the arc.

Under 16 Hurling Championship Round 2:
ABK Desmonds 7-13 Athea 1-09
Our U16 hurlers delivered another impressive performance on Sunday morning, earning a well-deserved two points with a solid win over a competitive Athea side on a scoreline of 7-13 to 1-9.
It was an early start in warm conditions, with the game throwing in at 10:00am in Athea. We hit the ground running, scoring a couple of early goals that set the tone for the first half. The lads kept up the pressure throughout, playing with great intensity and teamwork, and went in at the break with a commanding lead of 3-9 to 0-6.
Athea came out strongly in the second half and registered some fine scores of their own. They threatened to close the gap further, but a series of excellent saves from Martin Meehan and some determined defending from our full-back line kept them at bay.
As the half wore on, our forwards found their rhythm again and finished the game in style with a flurry of well-taken goals to seal the win. Team and scorers Martin Meehan, Donnacha O’Gorman, Aaron Cregan, Tom Kelly, Danny Murphy, Eoin McNamara, Ryan O’Donoghue,
Cillian Murphy (1-0), Cathal Daly (0-5), Hugh Sheehy, Brooklyn Delahunty (2-6), Darragh O’Shaughnessy, Rory Moran (1-0), Lorcan Blackwell (3-2), Peter Hoda, Paudie Ryan.
Go Games:
Our under 11 hurlers play a Munster council blitz in Cuasck Park Ennis this Thursday at 10.30am. Another great opportunity for these young lads to play at an inter county venue.
Our under 12 footballers were in action against our neighbours Kildimo Pallaskenry in Pallaskenry last Tuesday night. There was some great action packed play from our lads as they continue to improve and turn up in big numbers as always. Well done lads.
Under 7 Hurling Blitz v Ballybrown:
Great to see our young under 7 hurlers togging out in Clarina during the week for a game versus Ballybrown. Well done lads and thanks to Ballybrown GAA for having us.
Tailteann Cup Final:
Hard luck to the Limerick Senior Footballers who came up short in the Tailteann Cup Final versus Kildare on Saturday in Croke Park. Danny Neville scored a fine first half point for the Shannonsiders and was a constant threat throughout. Overall it has been a hugely positive year for Limerick football and they can look forward to 2026 with plenty of optimism.
