Askeaton/Ballysteen/Kilcornan GAA Club Notes:

Minor Hurling Championship Round 1:
Askeaton/Ballysteen/Kilcornan 4-11 Coshlea Gaels 2-15
Our minor hurlers kicked off their championship with an exciting come from behind victory over Coshlea Gaels in Askeaton last Wednesday night. Trailing by 8 points 10 minutes into the second half things looked bleak but a green flag from lively substitute Cillian Murphy kickstarted our revival. Zach Birdthistle followed this up with a terrific flick to the net from a long delivery from Cathal Guerin and it was game on. Driven on by Cathal Guerin who dominated throughout at half back and capped a fine display with 5 excellent long range frees we dominated the last quarter and Seanie Downes hit two beautiful points late on to seal the win. Overall a very encouraging performance from the minors with Shane Ryan outstanding in goals on our first night out with plenty of fine performances throughout the field from young guns Eoin McNamara and Aaron Cregan in the full back line to the fore. Two first half Jimmy Harty goals along with some nice scores from Brooklyn Delahunty and Lorcan Blackwell kept us in contention in the opening half. Well done to all involved. Team and scorers Shane Ryan, Aaron Cregan, James Hoda, Eoin McNamara, Cathal Guerin 0-5 (4 f, 1 65), Zach Birdthistle 1-01, Danny Murphy, Conor McNamara, Seanie Downes 0-03, Jimmy Harty 2-00, Todd O Shaughnessy, Lorcan Blackwell 0-01, Darragh O Shaughnessy, Brooklyn Delahunty 0-01, Nathan Dalton. ABK Desmonds 5-22 Na Piarsaigh B 1-02

This brings us to three wins from three but sterner tests lay ahead in our last two group games against Southside Gaels and Croagh Kilfinny as we bid for a semi final place. Well done to a young Na Piarsaigh B team who battled bravely to the end.
