Askeaton/Ballysteen/Kilcornan GAA Club Notes:
West Junior B Football Final:
Askeaton-Ballysteen-Kilcornan 1-11Glin 0-07
The Junior B Footballers took on Glin on Friday evening for the West Junior B title in front of a bumper crowd in Foynes.
The game was barely a minute old when some slick interplay out the field saw the ball worked into the hands of Sam Duggan, who sidestepped his man and expertly dispatched an opening goal for Askeaton Ballysteen Kilcornan.
Glin levelled the game with a well-taken free before four quickfire points from Tomas Sheahan (x2), Shane Gallagher, and Evan Costello put us firmly in the driving seat. When Fiachra Butler White fired over a booming two-pointer from the left, it left the scoreline looking very healthy heading into the break. Half-time Askeaton Ballysteen Kilcornan 1-7 : 0-2 Glin.
To their credit, Glin came out in the second half with renewed energy and began getting the ball into more attacking areas. This purple patch saw them notch the next four scores, tightening the game to 1-7 to 0-6.
Our lads knuckled down, and with some fresh legs introduced from the bench, we began to regain control. Sam Duggan, now operating further out the field, landed a lovely point from the right-hand side. Sean McMahon then cleverly slotted over after winning a loose ball inside, settling the nerves and restoring a six-point cushion.
Glin continued to plug away, but our backs did a great job managing the final ten minutes, limiting them to just a single point. The freshly introduced Jamie Dolan slotted a 45 after a goalmouth scramble, and the experienced Shane Gallagher—rolling back the years—added the final touch with a point from a lovely Darragh Leonard lay-off.
Captain Shane Hanrahan was presented with the trophy after a fantastic team performance.
Congratulations to the players and management! A special mention to our U8 footballers who entertained the crowd at half-time with a great game against their Glin counterparts. Full-time

Under 13 Football County Shield Semi Final
ABK Desmonds 2-08 Ballybricken/Bohermore/Croom 2-07
Our under 13 footballers qualified for the County Division 3 Shield Final after a nail biting one point win versus a strong Ballybricken Bohermore Croom in a greasy Culhane Park Glin on Wednesday night. We led throughout but showed real grit and determination in the closing stages as our lads put their bodies on the line to block everything our opponents threw at us to get us over the line by the narrowest of margins. Well done to this great group who are now bidding for a county double after their great hurling success last week. The final is fixed for Sunday night at 6:30pm in Fedamore versus Saint Patricks. County Under 13 Shield Football Final:
Hard luck to our under 13 footballers who were defeated by a strong St Patricks outfit on Sunday night in Fedamore. Despite only trailing at half time by a single point after playing against a strong breeze we just couldn’t get the scores needed in the second half and a couple of late St Patricks goals left the final scoreline 1-07 to 1-00. Hard luck to all involved.
