County Hurling Glory for Magnificent under 13s:

– –
There were jubilant scenes in a rain and windswept Fedamore last Wednesday night as joint captains Dylan O’Connor and Noah O’Malley lifted the County under 13 division 3 hurling title following a fantastic 5-10 to 4-05 win over Garryspillane.
The Bouncers were first out of the blocks with a point from a free before our centre back Dylan O’Connor settled our nerves with a super long range free to open our account.
Half forward Danny Anglim added a point and our first goal of the night to put us in to an early 4 point lead. Garryspillane went on to dominate the next period of the first half and registered a goal and a point to narrow the gap. The damage could have been much worse were it not for a terrific point blank save from goalkeeper Darragh Moran and some heroic defending from our full back line of Paidi Sheehy, Noah O’Malley and John Hanlon. Inspired by the magnificent Michael O’Shaughnessy in midfield we dominated the latter stages of the first half and were rewarded with two goals the first a terrific flick from full forward Jack Fitzgibbon, after another brilliant delivery from Dylan O’Connor, and the second a tidy finish from Niall Sheehy after the keeper parried from Danny Anglim.
Donagh O’Connor added a fine point to stretch our lead to six points before Garryspillane hit back yet again with a well taken goal.
With our two corner forwards Eoghan Kelly and Niall Sheehy playing great stuff the lively Eoghan Kelly fed Danny Anglim who rounded off our first half scoring with a point from the wing after a solo run to send us in at half time leading on a scoreline of 3-05 to 2-04.
Garryspillane threw everything at us at the start of the second half and buried an early goal.
Our outstanding half back line of Kieran Condon, Dylan O’Connor and Luke Fitzgibbon really tightened their grip on the Garryspillane half forward line from this onwards.
As they came in search of the lead half back Kieran Condon put his body on the line to win a crucial possession and fed Danny Anglim who took off on another solo run before burying the sliotar in to the top corner to put us four clear again.
With Michael O’Shaughnessy and Cian Somers now dominant in midfield Somers won all the dirty ball and in turn the impressive Darragh Whelan created more space for himself and hit two beautiful points to stretch our lead further.
To their credit the Bouncers hit back with their fourth goal of the night to keep the ABK fans anxiously gripping their umbrellas before that man, the inspirational Michael O’Shaughnessy plucked a ball from the skies and fed Anglim who smashed home his hat trick and brought his tally to 3-03 with just five minutes left.
The ever reliable Dylan O’Connor who was dominating the skies at number 6 then landed a free from way out. With the clock ticking down Donagh O Connor and Daragh Whelan combined for Whelans third point of the night before substitute Oisin O’Connor rifled over a great point to a huge cheer to all but secure the title.
The final whistle followed shortly afterwards to great scenes of jubilation.
A huge well done to all 23 players who togged out last night and have been on the road since January. The management team led by Brian Condon and selectors Emmet Whelan, Mike Kelly, Owen O’Donoghue and Seamus Fitzgerald have put hours of work in to this side playing tournaments and challenge matches all over the county since January to make sure we had the best possible chance of winning this title.
Also a big thank you to the all who made the long trip to support the team on such a miserable night. It was great to see such a big crowd on the pitch afterwards for the presentation and the cheers from the bank gave our young hurlers a great boost. Askeaton-Ballysteen-Kilcornan 0-09 Tournafulla 3-13
Our junior A Hurlers suffered defeat to Tournafulla in the West Junior A Hurling League Final on Thursday night last in Feenagh. It was a disappointing performance as we failed to cope with the loss of a number of regulars. Overall it was been a positive league campaign for the Junior A hurlers and we can look forward to the championship with plenty of optimism.

Junior B West Football Championship Semi Final:
Askeaton-Ballysteen-Kilcornan 2-12 Rathkeale 1-11
Our Junior B’s took on Rathkeale on Friday night in the Bog Garden for a place in the West Championship Final. Rathkeale got off to the better starts and had 2 points on the board before Shane Gallagher knocked over our 1st point from play and he’d add a 2nd soon after to level it. Rathkeale playing with whatever breeze was there were getting ball into the two inside men and tacked on a few more points before a Sam Duggan 2 point free and another nice effort from play got us level at 5 points apiece. It would be Sam Duggan again who got the final score of the half with some nice slick passing out the
field finding Duggan 1-v-1 out wide left, he’d a lot of work to do from where he was but he drove on goal and finished nicely to the far corner to put us up going into the break on a scoreline of Askeaton-Ballysteen-Kilcornan 1-5 Rathkeale 0-6.
The second half was a much quieter one on the scoreboard with both teams tightening up around the middle third, Colm O Flaherty worked hard inside all game and got a lovely score to extend the lead and when Pakie Moran put over a boomer we were a point up going into the last ten minutes. Rathkeale would strike though and plunder a goal from a shot that just dipped in under the bar and leave us 2 points down with 5 on the clock. Niall Barry and John Fitzsimons were bombing forward in support of the attack looking to get back into the game but some wayward shooting left Rathkeale looking likely winners with time running out. However they were caught with only 2 men in the attacking half and the resulting 2 point free was expertly dispatched by Tomas Sheahan to level the game and with that the ref blew the final whistle, Extra Time! Full time scoreline Askeaton-Ballysteen-Kilcornan 1-9 Rathkeale 1-9.
Extra time saw Rathkeale take the lead early, Tomas Sheahan pegged it back with another free and the move that won the game saw Pakie Moran break onto a loose ball around the middle, it was worked through the hands and found its way to Sam Duggan who once again raced towards goal and dispatched to put us ahead. Tomas added two more points from play and although Rathkeale pushed looking for that goal, the lads were able to take the sting out of the game and see out a good win in the end. Final score AET
