Ahane Minor Camogie runners-up

Ahane and Templeglantine took to Doon to play the minor 12 a-side county final on Friday evening, 29th November. Conditions were cold but dry and both teams hit the ground running with Shauna D’Arcy getting Ahane’s first goal five minutes into the first half. Templeglantine did not let Ahane’s early goal phase them and they got their own goal in the 18th minute of the first half.

Both teams played well and there was savage hooking and blocking from both sides. Both sides traded scores with Ahane’s first half points coming from Sarah Cosgrove and Cliodhna Twomey. Templeglantine got their second goal of the half in the twenty fifth minute of the first half which left the half time score as Ahane 1-03 Templeglantine 2-01.

Templeglantine were fastest out of the blocks in the second half and scored their third goal within seconds of the 2nd half starting. Ahane got a point without thirty seconds of their goal and again both teams fought hard throughout the second half. Six minutes in and Ahane scored their second goal of the game coming from the stick of Sarah Cosgrove. Ahane scored three more points but Templeglantine got their fourth goal of the game in the twelfth minute of the second half. Ahane never let their heads drop and scored two more points. Their points in the second half came from Sarah Cosgrove, Éle Madigan, and Ciara Macken. The game ended on a score line of Ahane 2-08 Templeglantine 4-05.

A great game of camogie that unfortunately ended with wrong result for our girls but we are incredibly proud of them and how they have played over the season and how they have represented us throughout the season. Huge congratulations to Templeglantine on a great win!

Unfortunately Shauna had to go off injured towards the end of the game and we would like to send her lots of luck and love for a speedy recovery!

On behalf of the club we would like to thank the minor management team of Jonathan Hayes, Alice Reynolds, Niamh Power, Aoife Quinn and Toni Macken who did first aid throughout the year. Minor championship title for Ladies football

Congratulations to Ahane ladies minor football team who were crowned Minor C Shield County Champions on Sunday last. Ahane overcame Murroe by the narrowest of margins in a nail-biting finish to what was a thrilling game of football. Well done to the girls and their management team, a lovely end to a busy season.

Niamh Mulcahy – Camogie All-Star game

Recently we saw the Liberty Insurance Camogie All Star teams of 2018 and 2019 travel to New York to play in an exhibition match in Gaelic Park. Niamh Mulcahy represented both Limerick and Ahane on the All Stars 2019 team where she scored three points of the 5-19 winning total. The game finished with a score line of All Stars 2019 5-19 All Stars 2018 2-11.

It is a fantastic achievement for all the players and we are unbelievably proud of Niamh for all she has achieved and for how she has represented the club at the highest level! A more deserving player you will not find.

New Jerseys and GAA training gear

A big THANK YOU to Miriam and all in SuperValu Castletroy for their support in donating a new set of Jerseys and GAA training gear to Ahane GAA. Bord na nOg Chairman Martin McCormack, Bord na nOg Secretary Linda O’Connor together with some members of the underage teams were on hand in Castletroy to try on the new jerseys and accept the very generous donation of training gear including cones, poles, ladders, bibs etc. Martin and Linda were very thankful for the support of the Bord na nOg players and parents for taking part this morning and taking time to meet Miriam and the SuperValu team and accept the generous donation to the Club.

Over 35’s Hurling

Following another great game of hurling last weekend, we will have our last outing for 2019 next week. We have had very enjoyable and successful run of games with a large number of players returning to the field following many years away, and even a few taking to the field trying hurling for the first time. Well done to everyone who has taken part to date.

Our last game is this Saturday 7th of November in at our usual location in UL Astroturf (Maguire’s field) from 4-5pm.
