AHANE GAA CLUB NOTES

Niamh Mulcahy – Camogie All-Star Winner 2019

Huge congratulations from all within Ahane and Limerick to Niamh on winning the first of her well-deserved senior camogie All-Star awards last weekend. Niamh has been outstanding for both Ahane and Limerick for a number of years now, dominating games and consistently top-scoring for the sides she has spearheaded. With Ahane, Niamh’s performances were pivotal in her side claiming their first senior camogie championship after a 42 year wait, indeed scoring 0-9 points in the final herself. With Limerick for over a number of years now, Niamh has excelled when pitted against the country’s finest defenders, generally proving one of the county’s stand-out performers – while often being double-marked such was the respect and fear opposition had for her abilities.

Whereas Niamh’s roots are often touted, being a grand-daughter to the famous Mackey’s, she has certainly ploughed her own path on the field through an absolute dedication and commitment to better herself as a player. Anyone around the Ahane GAA grounds over the years will have witnessed Niamh honing the skills of the game with a relentless appetite and determination, raising the bar for her teammates and setting great example to those aspiring young girls and boys within the club.

The award is certainly just reward for Niamh and her proud family who are steeped in both Ahane and Limerick GAA over the years.

Maith thú agus comhghairdeas!

U12 Hurlers

The U12 group had their final end of year hurling match yesterday with an away trip against Clare Galway / Carnmore GAA Club. The game turned out to be a very entertaining game with very little between the sides over the course of 2 x 25 minutes with Ahane taking some great scores in the second half to get a very good win against an impressive Galway team.

The U12 mentors would like to thank Sean Carey for taking care of refereeing duties in his usual partial and encouraging style to all players on the pitch.

Liam, Brendan and Eugene were also very complimentary of the hospitality of Clare Galway / Carnmore GAA mentors and supporters for all those who travelled to Carnmore – there was a very friendly welcome and a fine array of tea, coffee, sandwiches and cakes and treats for all players and supporters after the game.

U11 Hurlers

The U11 players had their final end of year hurling match earlier today with an away trip to Shannon and Wolfe Tones Na Sionna GAA Club. Ahane had 15 players taking part in the hurling blitz in Shannon and the squad played 2 x 12-a-side games against two Wolfe Tones U11 teams. The players did incredibly well and won both games – all supporters who travelled to Shannon saw some fantastic hurling, teamwork and commitment from the players.

Brendan, Liam and Martin presented wall ball sliotars to all the Ahane players after the game in recognition of the efforts over recent weeks which was very evident in the display of team in both games today.

The mentors would like to thank Wolfe Tones na Sionna GAA Club for the invitation to the blitz today and for their hospitality to all Ahane players after the game.
