Ahane GAA Club Notes:

U8 Hurling:
The u8 hurlers had a great trip last Saturday . Thanks to coach Bobby for coordinating & to his home club Holycross Ballycahill & their sponsors Streamline Enterprises who were fantastic hosts – pizza & treats for the kids plus teas/coffees & biscuits for all the parents. We look forward to returning the favour

U11 Hurling & Football:
Today our wonderful u11 hurlers & footballers had their end of year trip to Galway. We stopped off first in Gort to playing a hurling match. Thanks so much to all in Gort for their wonderful hospitality…hugely appreciated after the early start from Ahane!
Then it was back on the bus to Wildlands in Moycullen for Ziplining (couple of dicey moments for the mentors…kids all over it!) and finally Supermacs on the way home.
Thanks to James, Padhric, John R, Mike, Vincent and Justin. Well done to all the kids who represented themselves, their families & club so well

U21 Hurling:
A fantastic start for our U21 boys who began the Championship with a convincing win over Newcastle West. Kevin Morrissey has 1-07 scored in the first half. Six from frees and 1-01 from play. Newcastle West hit a purple patch, scoring a goal that dropped in from a long range free and then a couple of points on the bounce. But with Kevin’s goal and then Mark Donnellan scored a point which levelled the game. It was Craig O’Connell who popped up with his own point from play to put us back in the lead. Half time Ahane 1-09 Newcastle West 1-08. Newcastle West levelled it straight from the throw in and then they got another. The lead didn’t last long as Jack Butler scored a smashing goal and we were two ahead. Not a minute later and it was Liam O’Mara’s turn to score a goal and we were on a roll! Newcastle West got a few more points from play. Before Kevin stepped over a free and hit it over the bar to bring his tally to 1-08. David Carr was introduced as a sub and scored a beauty of a point before Kevin fired over two more points. David took on the scoring duties again as he got another classy score and we were well ahead. Kevin got the last score of the game and ended the day with 1-11 to his name! Full time Ahane 3-16 Newcastle West 1-13.

Junior A Hurling:
We retained our Junior A Hurling status as we had a great win over Blackrock. Andrew Minehan started the scoring with a free, then a 65, and then another free before Blackrock scored a free of their own. David Carr picked up where he left off with the U21’s and danced around defenders before slotting the ball over the bar. Andrew hit another free over the bar and then it was David once again that popped up with a seriously well take goal! Craig O’Connell took on a long range strike from the middle of the field and it sailed over the bar before Blackrock scored two quick points. Andrew Minehan scored the final point of the half with another free. Ahane 1-07 Blackrock 0-03. It was more points from frees for both sides at the start of the second half. Liam O’Mara got his name on the score sheet and it was again Andrew who fired over another placed ball. Blackrock got three points to keep their scores ticking over before once again Andrew scored another free. Diarmuid McCarthy got a super score from play, before Craig got his second point after Cathal hit the long range free in, Craig caught it beautifully and then off balance and over the shoulder he fired it over! David Carr continued his good form from the first half as he scored another great point. Tom Doheny come on and scored a point from play and from a free. Full time Ahane 1-17 Blackrock 0-09.
