Ahane GAA Club Notes:

U19 Football:
We were crowned U19 B Football County Champions in the most dramatic fashion last Monday night the game went the whole way to penalties. On more than one occasion we came back from being behind to level the game. A last-minute point from Liam Óg Glynn saw us take the game to extra time as it ended 1-09 apiece after ordinary time. We came back from being four points down in extra time to level the game once more with points from Liam Óg and Colm Slattery. St Senan’s pushed on again, but our lads never ever gave up and fought to the very end. 18 minutes into extra time and Donnacha O’Leary scored a goal which put us a point behind. It was Liam Óg once again that brought us level and took the game to penalties. The light was fading, and you could feel the tension in the air as the St Senan’s player stepped up to take the first penalty. Cian O’Leary made a fine save, and it was the perfect start for us. Craig O’Connell’s penalty was then saved. St Senan’s put their next penalty wide and Adam O’Connell’s shot hit the post and went out. St Senans scored on their third attempt as did we as Colm Slattery slotted home his penalty to keep us in the running. St Senans next penalty was hit wide before Liam Óg Glynn stepped up and cool as you like he slotted it home giving us the advantage. St Senans scored their next one, as Cian got his fingertips to it but didn’t manage to keep it out. Our fifth and final penalty was taken by Gavin Rowsome who confidently hit the back of the net and secured us the county title! A fantastic game from our lads who stood tall and showed serious heart and determination! A very proud day for them, their coaches, parents, and the club!

Junior B Hurling:
We headed to Pallasgreen to take on Pallasgreen in the Junior B Hurling County Championship on Tuesday night. A tough game in warm conditions it took us a while to get to into the game. We got points from Tom Doheny and David Kennedy while Pallasgreen got some lovely points of their own. Half time Ahane 0-06 Pallasgreen 0-10. Pallasgreen scored a couple of more points after half time to stretch out their lead. We got scores from William Shanahan, Johnny Meskell and we got our first goal from Tom Doheny. Seamus Richardson got our second goal. Pallasgreen got a goal of their own and added on a few more points. Johnny Meskell then scored our third goal. We ended the game on score line of Ahane 3-10 Pallasgreen 1-20.

Senior Hurling:
It was a trip to Claughaun for our Senior hurlers to take on Na Piarsaigh. We started strongly with a Ronan Fox point, and then added to that with a Gavin Rowsome point. Tom made it three before adding another from a free. Ronan Lynch popped over frees for Na Piarsaigh to keep their scores ticking over. Ronan Fox scored a beauty, while Kevin Downes and Lynch did the scoring for Na Piarsaigh. Adrian Breen scored two for Na Piarsaigh before Ronan Fox got a stunning goal. Half time Ahane 1-07 Na Piarsaigh 0-10. The high quality continued into the second half with some lovely points being scored. Na Piarsaigh got their goal from JJ Carey to put their between us. Ronan scored another great point to keep us in touch and again we traded points. 47 minutes gone and it was Ahane 1-12 Na Piarsaigh 1-14. Na Piarsaigh however had the legs to see them through the last ten minutes and the game finished Ahane 1-13 Na Piarsaigh 1-21.
