AHANE GAA CLUB NOTES

U19 County Championship v Na Piarsaigh
Ahane travelled to Caherdavin to take on Na Piarsaigh on Tuesday evening. In a cracking game of hurling which saw the teams trade scores over the sixty plus minutes of action. Mark Donnellan got Ahane off the mark with points from frees, before the Na Piarsaigh free tacker got them off the ground. Ahane put together some great pieces of team play and got some fabulous scores. Ahane got great scores from Mark Donnellan and Peter Donohoe to make the score Ahane 0-04 Na Piarsaigh 0-02 at the water break. Na Piarsaigh hit their purple patch in the second quarter as they got several unanswered scores. They went a point ahead before Ahane got a point from Kevin Morrissey to level up proceedings. From there the ball was over and back like a game of tennis with scores from Ahane’s Mark Hickey. Ahane got an all-important goal in the 28th minute which started with the ball in our defence, Jack Barry drove the ball down the line to John Donohoe who gave the perfect handpass to Gavin Rowsome who made no mistake in absolutely rattling the back of the net. Mark added to the goal with a point from a free. Half time score Ahane 1-07 Na Piarsaigh 0-09. The second half got underway, and Na Piarsaigh were first to score to level the game once more. Na Piarsaigh went two ahead again before Mark got another point from a free. The second half water break had the score at Ahane 1-09 Na Piarsaigh 0-14. Substitute David Carr came on and put in a great performance that saw him get 1-01. Gavin Rowsome was back with his magic tricks on Tuesday again as he flicked the ball into his hands and got a super score. Na Piarsaigh got some more good points, but Ahane’s third goal was enough to keep them in the lead. Ahane’s goal came from Peter Donohoe after he got a great pass in from Mark Donnellan. Full time score Ahane 3-11 Na Piarsaigh 0-18. Ahane are now in a quarter final with a date and time to be confirmed.

Junior A Hurling County Championship
Our Junior A team were out on Friday evening v Garryspillane in Caherconlish. Garryspillane started the stronger and held onto their lead for most of the game. The score at the first water break was Ahane 0-03 Garryspillane 1-04. The goal proved to be a killer for Ahane as try as they did, they couldn’t go ahead, and the half time score was Ahane 0-09 Garryspillane 1-08. Ahane struggled to get a grip of the game in the third quarter and Garryspillane got another goal which retained their lead. The scores at the second water break were Ahane 0-12 Garryspillane 2-13. Ahane however had a super last quarter as the light faded. They outscored Garryspillane 1-07 to 0-04. However, their comeback was too late and Ahane lost out by one point. Ahane are out again on Sunday 12th September v Monagea in Mick Neville Park at 8:15pm.

Ciorcal Comhrá
We had a great turn out for our Ciorcal Comhrá on Thursday night. We had eight adults outside the clubhouse, and it was so nice to see everyone face to face. Our next Ciorcal Comhrá is Thursday 7th October. All levels of Irish are welcomed!
U17 County Championship
Huge well done to our U17’s who won their game v Pallasgreen on Sunday afternoon.
U9 Football
Well done to our u9 footballers who this evening travelled to Claughan for a blitz. We fielded three teams who played three games each. Great skills and team play on show. Well done to the boys and girls and thanks to the coaches for all their efforts! Thanks too to our Covid supervisor Heather, our hosts and to all the parents for getting the kids there on time and supporting them. Ahane abú!
U9 Hurling
Well done to our u9 hurlers who were on the road on Monday evening as they travelled to Cappamore for a very enjoyable blitz! Thanks to the coaches and referees and to the parents who got the kids there on time
U11 Hurling
Well done to our u11 hurlers who were away Tuesday evening to St Patricks for a blitz. We fielded two teams who played two very competitive matches. Thanks to our hosts
