A LOOK BACK ON  2020 TO DATE :

The 2020 playing year began on 20th. December 2019, when Limerick played host to the All Ireland Champions, Tipperary at LIT Gaelic Grounds in the opening round of the Co-Op Superstores Munster Hurling where Limerick scored a 2.22 to 1.17 win. In was off to Sixmilebridge on Sunday 5th. January for a Round 2 game with Clare and once again a Limerick win was achieved by 1.27 to 1.19 to gain a place in the final were Cork would provide the opposition

Meanwhile the Senior Footballers were having a good run in the McGrath Cup, recording 0.14 to 2.06 over Clare in Mick Neville on Sunday 29th. December and following up with a 1.10 to 0.10 over Waterford in Fraher Field Dungarvan on Thursday night 2nd January to reach the final and a date with Cork.

On Saturday 11th. January, LIT Gaelic Grounds hosted a Double Fixture, with Limerick Footballers playing Cork in the McGrath Cup Final and the same Counties meeting in Co-Op Stores Munster Hurling League Final in front of an attendance of 5,296.

It turned to be a very good evening for Limerick, winning on the double, the Footballers won The McGrath Cup for the first time in 15 years defeating Cork by 0.20 to 0.16 while Hurlers lifted the Co-0p Superstores Munster Hurling League title for the second time in three years with a well merited win over Cork, by 1.32 to 0.20.

Allianz Hurling & Football League

Limerick had a double engagement on Saturday 25th. January in the opening Round of the Allianz Leagues. The hurlers were first into the fray when at Semple Stadium, they defeated All Ireland Champions Tipperary by 2.14 to 0.18. while in Fraher Park in Dungarvan, the Footballers got their League campaign off to a great sat start with 1.10 to 0.10 win over Waterford. Both the Hurlers and Footballers continued their good League run, the Hurlers followed up with wins over Galway, Cork, Westmeath and Waterford to top Division 1a and qualify for a Semi Final place, while the Footballers scored victories over London, Carlow, Wicklow before losing out to Antrim in their Round 5 game.

Unfortunately on Thursday 12th. March, because of the Coronavirus outbreak, restrictions were imposed and all games (among many other events) were cancelled) Limerick Footballers had two games still to play, Wexford (home) and Sligo ( away), while the Hurlers were awaiting a Semi Final game.
