ST KIERAN’S GAA CLUB NOTES
AGM:
The 2021 St. Kieran’s GAA AGM will take place on Friday December 10 at 9pm. As in 2020 the 2021 AGM will take place online through Microsoft teams in order to reduce mass indoor gatherings. Any club members who wish to log onto the meeting are asked to provide their email address to the club secretary this week in advance of the meeting.
County Premier U21 Football Championship:
The u21 footballers travel to Rhebogue, St. Patrick’s this Friday evening for what promises to be a very entertaining and closely contested county semi-final clash against Galbally. Both teams go into the game off strong group phases, we opened our account with a close fought encounter against west Limerick rivals, Fr. Casey’s in round 1. After sixty plus minutes of football there was no separating the two sides while in round 2 we comfortably saw off the challenge of Monaleen. We received a walkover from Na Piarsaigh this past Friday evening and while the game would have been nice to maintain momentum given the hectic schedule of games over the past three months the rest was most certainly wanted by the players and hopefully, they will go into Friday’s game fresh. Galbally for their part go into the game off the back of a perfect group campaign having notched up wins over Newcastlewest, Cappagh-Rathkeale and Mungret-St. Pauls and will no doubt be favourites for victory. Both teams are littered with talent who have loads of senior county championship and underage inter-county experience. Friday’s game throws in at 8pm. We would encourage those making the journey to purchase your tickets in advance.
County U21 B Hurling Championship Quarter Final.
Templeglantine 3.9 St. Kieran’s 1.13
Ballingarry was the venue this past Sunday for the County Quarter final against fellow west Limerick side Templeglantine. Prior to the game there was a moments silence in memory of
Kathleen Ryan, grandmother of panel member Sean Ryan who passed away this weekend. The opening quarter was a hotly contested affair with early scores from Cathal McEnery, Eoin McEnery, Dylan Cahill and Cormac Mann ensuring that there was no separating the two sides at the opening water break. We doubled our tally in the second quarter thanks to some excellent work up front which was duly punished by the sharp marksmanship of both Eoin McEnery and Dylan Cahill to ensure that we held a five-point lead at the interval, 0.12 to 1.4. despite trailing by five at the break Templeglantine got their second half off to the perfect start scoring a wonderful goal straight from the throw. This did not deter our lads as Conor Kelly replied immediately and found the back of the net to increase our tally to five points once again and from here it looked as if we would remain in the ascendency. The sides were once again back on level terms at the end of the third quarter and it was now evident that the glantine men were growing in confidence as the game began to swing their way. With ten minutes to go we trailed by two points and faced a major battle if we were to advance to the county semi-final. Despite one late push we couldn’t find that illusive goal to take the spoils and it was the glantine side who emerged victorious following a titanic battle in a game where lady-luck deceived us. Despite the loss there was a lot of positives to take from the game with all bar three of the starting team underage again in 2022. Well done to the players and management team for their efforts throughout the campaign. It has been an extremely busy few weeks for all teams within the club. Given the nature of the age grade it is not easy to get teams together for mid-week games given that so many players are away throughout the country for college but there is no shortage of talent available at our disposal and hopefully the lads can push on to further successes in 2022.

St. Kieran’s GAA would like to send our condolences to the Ryan family, Coolacokera, Ardagh on the passing of Kathleen, mother of former club chairman John, Dan and Kay and grandmother of current players Sean and Oisin this past week. Also, to the Reidy family Ardagh on the untimely passing of Paddy this weekend. May they both rest in peace.
