AHANE GAA CLUB NOTES
Cash for Clobber:
We are still running our Cash for Clobber fundraiser. We accept unwanted/unused clothes, shoes (in pairs only), handbags and belts. You can drop your bags on a Saturday morning at the dressing room from 10-11am. Huge thank you to all those who have already dropped off bags, your support is greatly appreciated!
Seachtain na Gaeilge:
We have kicked off our activities for Seachtain na Gaeilge this week as we had our monthly Ciorcal Comhra. On Saturday morning we held our coding event for children in 4th and 5th class and then to finish off the weekend we had our family Trath na gCeist! It has been a great start to Seachtain na Gaeilge and we are looking forward to the events coming up next week. We have another coding workshop on Saturday 13th March. Then on Sunday we have a game of 45 for the adults, on Tuesday 16th March we have our exercise class with BEO Fitness and to finish off Seachtain na Gaeilge we will have our virtual St Patrick’s Day Parade!
For our virtual St Patrick’s Day Parade, we are asking our members and supporters to get involved by sending us a video of them either playing a tune, doing some dancing, reciting a poem, or just saying hello as Gaeilge. Whither you are supporting us from New Garden or Dubai we want you to get involved as we celebrate St Patrick’s Day virtually. We have a video on our social media pages that gives you all the information on our virtual St Patrick’s Day. Deadline for entries for the virtual parade is Friday 12th March. You can submit your videos to us on by messaging us on Facebook or on WhatsApp to our Irish Officer Denis on 087 879346102.
Last Man Standing
Week 3 update from our Last Man Standing Competition sees us with 167 people still in the competition and the most popular teams for week three were Liverpool, Spurs and Man City. Huge thank you to all who have taken part in the competition and to all those who helped to recruit people for the competition, it is greatly appreciated! Keep an eye on our social media pages for the update from week 4!
MyLife Every Step Counts Challenge
The MyLife Every Step Counts Challenge finished up on Wednesday 3rd March. As a club we came first in Munster as we clocked up a whopping 68,967.5km from 13th January to 3rd March. This is phenomenal distance and huge credit has to go to all those who participated. The challenge was a fantastic way to get out and active over the last few weeks and it was a great way for us all to come together while also staying apart! It also provided some healthy competition in the club which is always great fun!
Membership
Reminder we are now open to receive membership for the 2021 season. In order for you to be insured to play you have to be a member of the club. If you have not renewed your membership before 31st March, then you will not be insured to play with the club. You will find all the membership packages on our website or on the ClubZap app. Our website is www.ahanegaa.ie
Sarah Lavin
Huge congratulations to local athlete Sarah Lavin who represented Ireland in the 60m Hurdles in Torun, Poland. Sarah qualified for the semi-final after running a superb time of 8.03. Unfortunately, Sarah was just outside the qualifying time to get to the final, but we are so unbelievably proud of her here in Ahane. She is a fantastic role model for all in the club and it is wonderful to have someone from the parish representing us at an international level.
Condolences
On behalf of everyone in Ahane GAA we send our condolences to the family of Seamus Ryan who sadly passed away. Seamus’s nephews Paul and Mark O’Halloran both play on our adult teams and Seamus himself played with the club in both hurling and football in the 1980s. All of Seamus’s family and wide circle of friends are in our thoughts and prayers. Ar dheis De go raibh a anam.
International Women’s Day
Happy International Women’s Day to all the wonderful women in the club. Thank you for all that you do, the club wouldn’t run without you all! We hope you all have a great day because you deserve it!
Mother’s Day
Happy Mother’s Day to all the Mums and Grandmothers in the club. We hope you all have a fantastic day filled with love and joy! Thank you for driving around the county to support us, thank you for the endless number of sandwiches you have made, but most of all thank you for your never wavering support. We’d be lost without you!
