GRANAGH/BALLINGARRY GAA CLUB NOTES
Granagh/Ballingarry Off To A Winning Start
West Junior B Hurling Championship Round 1
Granagh/Ballingarry………………1-12
Tournafulla………………………..0-13
Granagh/Ballingarry got their West Junior B Hurling Championship campaign off to a
winning start with a thrilling two point victory over holders Tournafulla and sweet revenge
for last year’s final defeat at Ballingarry.
A big crowd watched this thrilling contest between two fine sporting teams played on an
excellent pitch in ideal conditions with the issue in doubt right up to Joe Mulcahy’s final
whistle. Mark O’Connor, from open play and Corey Keogh from a placed ball, had white
flags for Tournafulla in the opening three minutes cancelled out by John O’Grady from a pair
of placed balls for 0-2 each on five minutes. Then white flags were traded by John O’Grady
from a placed ball on seven minutes and Corey Keogh from open play a minute later, before
Granagh/Ballingarry’s no 12 John O’Grady split the uprights from a placed ball for the third
time and Jack Hartnett followed up a minute later with a well taken point following a good
solo run to leave the black and greens two ahead, 0-5 to 0-3 on eleven minutes. Cory Keogh
won a point back for the Tour boys from a placed ball on 13 minutes before
Granagh/Ballingarry’s no 15 Jack Hartnett finished past Liam Keogh in the Tournafulla goal
a minute later to leave it 1-5 to 0-4 in favour of the homeside Granagh/Ballingarry at the end
of the first quarter.
The hurling in the second quarter was close and exciting with play flowing from end to end
and white flags traded by John O’Grady (free) on 16 minutes and Cory Keogh (free) on 18
minutes, John O’Grady (free) on 19 minutes and Corey Keogh (free) on 22 minutes, Jack
Hartnett (play) on 25 minutes and Jesse O’Mahony (play) on 27 minutes, Jeremiah Moroney
(play on 28 minutes and Jack Hartnett (play) on 29 minutes before Granagh/Ballingarry’s no
11 Jim O’Keeffe split the upright from long range two minutes into added time in this well
contested opening half to leave the home side Granagh/Ballingarry in at the interval leading
by five, 1-10 to 0-8.
Cory Keogh and John O’Grady traded white flags from placed balls in the opening six
minutes after the interval, to leave the home boys still four ahead. The holders Tournafulla
now began to up their game with a trio of white flags from open play through Connie
Brouder on 37 minutes, Jeremiah Moroney on 40 minutes and Seán O’Donnell on 43 minutes
before Granagh/Ballingarry sub Richie O’Keeffe made his presence felt straight away when
he split the uprights to leave the home side three ahead 1-12 to 0-12 at the end of the third
quarter. Then after four minutes of scoreless play Tournafulla’s no 12 Connie Brouder split
the uprights from a placed ball on 50 minutes to reduce the deficit to two. The final ten
minutes were close and exciting with play flowing from end to end. With both defences well
on top, both sides failed to add to the total, leaving the home side Granagh/Ballingarry two
point winners, 1-12 to 0-13 at Joe Mulcahy’s final whistle after a thrilling contest and a sweet
revenge for last year’s final defeat.
Granagh/Ballingarry scored 1-5 from play and 0-7 from frees. Tournafulla scored 0-8 from
play and 0-5 from frees.

County Intermediate Hurling Championship Tickets
Granagh/Ballingarry Intermediate hurlers play Hospital/Herbertstown in their final Group 2
stage game in the County Intermediate Championship on this Saturday 8th August in Michael
Fox Memorial Park, Kilfinane at 7pm.
Unfortunately, due to current Government restrictions on attendances at outdoor events to
200 our club will only be entitled to 50 tickets for supporters for Saturday evening’s game.
No cash will be taken at the gate and entry will strictly be ticket only. This has once more
placed our club in an extremely difficult position considering the great help we have always
received over many years from so many in the parish. Therefore, the club has decided that
each member of the Intermediate panel (players and management) will have the option of
purchasing one ticket each for the game. Promoters of our lottery draw who did not receive a
ticket for the Croom game will also be able to apply for a ticket. Any remaining tickets for
the Hospital/Herbertstown game this Saturday in Kilfinane will be raffled off among Club
members who did not receive a ticket for the Croom game. Contact Club Secretary John
Lynch (087) 2912356, Chairman Andrew Holmes (087) 9429228 or Treasurer Adrian
Farragher (087( 9187269 by 5pm today Wednesday 5th August.
Note: All tickets must be paid for on collection by cash or cheque €8. Members are asked for
patience and understanding in the run-up to Saturday’s game because not all will receive
tickets as demand is likely to far exceed the quantity our club receives from the County
Board. We look forward to the co-operation of all our club members to implement the sale of
tickets satisfactorily.
Note: Live updates of the game will be available on the Granagh/Ballingarry GAA Club
twitter account, twitter.com/gbgaaclublimk
