Family Fun Day Exceeds all Expectations

A big thank you all who participated and turned up in Mackey Park yesterday for the Ahane GAA Club family fun day. There was a tremendous turnout from pupils in Ahane, Castleconnell and Lisnagry schools together with parents and families involved in Ahane GAA Bord na nOg, Ahane Ladies Football & Camogie club. The fun filled afternoon kicked off with the players doing a parade of the pitches behind the bag pipes which set the scene nicely ahead of hurling, camogie and boys and girls football matches. There was also lots of entertainment for the younger (and older) kids with crazy golf, skills challenges, obstacle courses, dart football, basketball challenges, jenga, tug of war, face painting and lots more including the mentor matches where there was plenty of thrills and spills !!!!! Ahane Bord na nOg Chairman Martin McCormack thanked everyone for a massive team effort with a special mention to Bord na nOg Secretary Linda O’Connor who led from the front and organised a wonderful day and community event for all. Thank you to all who helped to ensure a fantastic and memorable day for the children in the community. Roll on 2020 Family Fun Day!!!

Limerick 1-28 Clare 0-13 (SENIOR)

Well done to the senior team as they showed their true form in dishing out an 18 point hammering of neighbours Clare in the Gaelic Grounds. With the fear of departing the 2019 championship hanging over their shoulders with defeat, Limerick showed from the off that they wouldn’t be relinquishing their crown so quickly.

Well done to Tom Morrissey who, along with getting through his usual mountain of work around the field, scored three superb points from wing forward. Despite his surprise omission from the starting line-up initially, Dan entered the fray in the second half and acquitted himself in his usual dominant and efficient form at centre back. Role on next Sunday against Tipperary in Thurles.

Limerick 0-16 Clare 0-13 (MINOR)

Congratulations to the minors who overcame a previously unbeaten Clare side in a largely dominant performance. Having drawn with Cork and Waterford in their opening games, Limerick needed to gain maximum points from this encounter and they duly did so. Well done to the two Ahane lads Adam Murrihy and Cian Casey who hurled superbly for the 65 minutes played at wing-back and midfield respectively. Adam indeed popped forward with two great points from distance in either half, while Cian hurled an amount of ball in the middle third of the field.

Next up is Tipperary also in Thurles at 12pm in their final group game, where a win will ensure their passage to the Munster Final. Be sure to get up to Thurles on Sunday next to shout on the lads.

Tom Meskell Memorial Tournament

Ahane played last year’s winners O’Callaghan’s Mills from Clare in the Final on Saturday evening at the end of the Ahane Fun Day. In what was a lively high scoring encounter, the men from Clare eventually came out on top with a few vital goals making the difference.

Big thanks to O’Callaghan’s Mills for taking part in a fine sporting game, and to Seanie Carey who officiated superbly as ever on the evening.
