Askeaton/Ballysteen/Kilcornan GAA Club Notes:Intermediates Come Up Short in Pairc Ui Chaoimh:
Munster Intermediate Football Championship Semi Final
Askeaton-Ballysteen-Kilcornan 0-10 Aghabullogue 0-14
The curtain came down on 2025 for our Intermediate footballers last Sunday following a galant and spirited effort versus Cork Premier Intermediate Champions Aghabullogue in the magnificent Supervalu Pairc Ui Chaoimh.
After a sluggish start which saw us trail six points to one point after 19 minutes we stormed back in to the game and went on to defy our status as heavy underdogs.
It was a first half which yielded two points from play from the boot of Danny Neville along with 2 frees from Joey Rushe and a 45 from custodian Jamie Dolan to keep us well in the game at 0-07 to 0-05 down at the short whistle.
Joey Rushe opened our account in the second half from a free before Aghabullogue hit back with three points as they utilised the wind. However ABK really threw the shackles off in the third quarter scoring four points without reply through Rushe (2 frees), Padraic Murphy and Danny Neville to level the game with 8 minutes remaining.
Unfortunately, Aghabullogue were to find another gear and inspired by a massive two pointer from their talisman Matthew Bradley just about did enough to shake off the determined ABK challenge and advance to the Munster Final.
Overall, we can be very happy with our season securing our first county title in 17 years and with that an immediate return to Senior football. Team and scorers Jamie Dolan 0-01 45, Niall Barry, Bill Casey, John Fitzsimons, Sam Colgan, Paki Moran, Luke Gammell, Shane Gallagher, Alan McGrath, Padhraic McMahon, Danny Neville 0-03, James O’Meara, Padraic Murphy 0-01, Paul O’Shaughnessy, Joey Rushe 0-05 frees. Subs used Sean Whelan, Jamie O’Sullivan, Shane Hallinan, Colm O’Flaherty.
