Athea GAA Club Notes:

Athea together Festival:
A great weekend was had for the Athea together Festival thank you very much Eamon McElligott and Brown Joes for organising a brilliant weekend in aid of Athea GAA, Athea United and the Athea Playground Committee more details to follow next week.

Club Result:
Woodlands House Hotel County Junior C Football Championship- Quarter-final
Athea 2-17. Ballinacurra Gaels 2-11.
Ballinacurra Gaels started brightly with an early point from play, but Aidan Curry soon put over a two pointer free before Athea quickly took control. Martin Chawke with two and Jim Ahern added fine scores from play before James Broderick began to make his presence felt, clipping over two neat points in quick succession.
Broderick then struck for Athea’s first goal midway through the half, finishing calmly from close range after a flowing move through midfield. Gaels responded with a slightly fortunate goal from distance and a point, but further frees from Curry restored Athea’s cushion.
At the break, Athea held a solid lead, 1-8 to 1-3.
Athea hit the ground running after the restart with a quick point from Broderick before David O’Connor burst through for a goal inside three minutes to push the margin to nine. Aidan Curry landed a two-pointer long-range strike from play and continued to knock over the frees.
Ballinacurra Gaels fought gamely and pulled a goal back through their centre forward to reduce the deficit to four but Athea’s composure and shot selection kept them out of reach. Late points from Neilus Hunt, David O Connor and Alan Kelly sealed a deserved six-point win on a scoreline of 2-17 to 2-11.
Again the mixture of youth and experience provided a good balance throughout and will give valuable experience to the younger lads as they advance in this competition.
Our next game is in the semi- final against Patrickswell on Sunday November 2nd 2025.
This will be a more difficult assignment but one that the team will be prepared for. Team Tomas Ahern, Cillian O’Connor, Alan Kelly 0-1, Jack Sexton, Jamie Collins, Conor Fitzgerald, Michael Tierney, , Gavin Ambrose, Martin Chawke 0-2 , Ger Collins, David O Connor 1-1, Neilus Hunt 0-1, Jim Ahern 0-1, James Broderick 1-3, Aidan Curry (0-8,1tp,1tpf, 4f) Subs Used: Philip Daly, Dan McMahon, Thomas McEnery
